Deep in the south kickin uptop game
Can you elaborate a lil more for me breh... I have an idea I just would like to hear some examples you experienced.
It's bad enough I'm a young black man in the south drivin a Lincoln on 22's but I see the difference between before I grew locs and now, the cops seem to pick you out even more. My parents live in this lil racist ass town just north of Charlotte, when I had my ceasar I used to be able to roll around in my moms Camry wit pretty much no problem, now, it don't matter what I'm drivin, when I go see them I usually at least get followed by a cop if not pulled over, never fails

Had my dreads for 3 years before I cut them :snoop: but Im growing them back tho :youngsabo:

I started with a bush and got gel twist. Got them retwisted every 3 weeks. Once they locked I was getting them done once a month.

So what length should I start the lockin or twisting phase?

I've been growing my hair out about 3 months and its at about a inch and a half, I've heard I should wait and I've heard don't let it get to long before starting to get it twisted up.

Mad confused.:ld:

^^I started mine in 2004 @ about 3" length. Was a PAIN to keep them little twists twisted, but the work paid off. Mine are almost 3' long now. Wash 'em twice a month and get them professionally re-twisted about every other month. @DreadHead P To keep my scalp from itching, I just spray lemon juice cut with water + Witch Hazel on 'em. To keep them from frizzing, just sleep with a silk scarf/t-shirt/wrap on them overnight.

The only issues I have with them are when I sit back on them and try to bend my head forward, and women CONSTANTLY playing with them when I'm walking in public places. Another 'negative' is during sex they tend to get in the way so I have to keep them tied back if I want to go HAM in missionary position.

Don't wait, as soon as you can get them locked start it. You hair grows faster when they're locked

I'm glad I found this thread... I've been growing my hair out for a few months... Right now I look like every black person in every commercial with the nappy neo soul fro

Can someone give me a checklist of things I will need after I get my hair twisted

I have tea tree moisturizer

Also, after I first get them twisted... Do I need to go to a professional to have them twisted every 3 weeks to a month or can I just do it myself?

Almost 5 years in....this is day two of a fresh retwist. :ahh:
I got a cut too, so now they're all naturally even and perfect at my shoulder.

Finna smoke a blunt, go run olive oil thru my scalp, and hit the gym b4 work. :youngsabo:

& :what: @ the cat saying "use wax".....:snoop:...
Use water-based gels only (unless u white :mjpls:)

I've had mine for 6 years. Used to get em retwisted every 3-4 weeks now it's more like every 6 weeks mostly because I'm a college student and pay to get mine done. Not having a homegirl or family that can do hair <<<<<.

Washing you hair is your friend, I do it every 2 weeks. That Jamaican Mango & Lime shampoo have my hair and scalp feeling like :ahh:. I also use shea butter and leave in moisturizer for daily use. My only regret is I wish I started them earlier. I grew my hair out for 18 months before locking it.

Yall new nikkas will jump on anything and claim it to be gospel…..'

Manicured Dreads have been around longer than the combined age of every motherfukker posting in this thread and I can guarantee you that there was no "locking gel" being used simply because there wasn't any.

Products with minimal ingredients were used…

Beeswax, Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter.

Yall believe the hype if you wanna.

Next thing yall gon be saying is green vegetables are bad for ya cause white folks told you

This is the end result of well done marketing and advertising and no one stated why you shouldn't use beeswax.

White folks telling yall what to use to grow African hair….:smh:

I see you Procter & Gamble.
