Manicured Dreads have been around longer than the combined age of every motherfukker posting in this thread and I can guarantee you that there was no "locking gel" being used simply because there wasn't any.

Products with minimal ingredients were used…

Beeswax, Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter.

Next thing yall gon be saying is green vegetables are bad for ya cause white folks told you


This is the end result of well done marketing and advertising and no one stated why you shouldn't use beeswax.

Yea you got a point but i say no beeswax simply because alot of the products arent minimal and natural and putting it in will result in squishy shyt locs with build up in em that cant wash again lol shyt with like 6-7 rows of ingrediants that black folks dont even need

Been growin all my life and locd the past few years though and need nothing but to make sure im clean and properly saturated with conditioner mainly for a healthy scalp imo as long as you got that you are good just find something that you prefer and dont over do it and remember everyones head responds differently

I sleep in this. Never use durags, they are unbreathable for your loc's and will crush them.

i let my hair grow for 3 years wore 2 and 3 strand twists, braids, cornrows before i locked up, but grow it out to decent fro length when u can get twist and they wont fall out..

go to the salan and tell em u want traditional locs Comb coils not to thin or thick...

when u first started ya locs herbal clense dry shampoo having yo head feeling lovely lol....the no wax shyt is brazy tho depends on yo hair texture Every dread head takes care their dreads a different way aint a right or wrong way i keep mine healthy...my hair more kinkier not curly i juss tell ppl dont use the wax unless u kan wash ya hair n use it every so often to avoid build up..unless u aint twisting up ya hair to often use the cream n wax...just dont OD on it kause it build up real quick..i like the water based twist n locs honey gel tho got a real good hold..

also DO NOT tie ya hair wit rubberhands i messed up with that shyt before made my sides thin..

Loc'd up for almost five years. Contrary to popular belief, water IS your friend. Clean locs=good locs.

Let your hair breathe.
Don't over twist
Avoid products that have petroleum in them.


NO BEESWAX...if you use it

I started back in November of 09. The woman who initially did my hair always used beeswax. I didn't think anything of it because i trusted that she knew what she was doing... flash forward a year later and my fukking hair is falling out like CRAZY just from washing it. It was basically as bad as this (minus the balding) -



My cousin owns a salon and she helped me out as much as she could, letting me know I shouldn't have used beeswax. After we washed out as much of it as we could, my scalp no longer itched and [what was left of] my hair looked cleaner, felt lighter, and was just flat out healthier

Haven't had any breakage since then and by this Fall the length of my locs should be back to being relatively even again

Ive had my dreads for 15 months now.. thank god wiz had bytches fukkin with that nappy fro when i had to go thru that stage.. my shyts like chief keef shyts(over my eyes), thats the best way to describe mine.. i needa get hip to some moisturizers and some diff shyt tho.. lemme know brehs

if you live in a hot place they gonna itch like a bytch the first couple months. get in a hot car you gon get uncomfortable in a few you probably gonna wanna pull them hoes constantly. DONT DO IT. u keepin em from lockin up. and it usually takes a 1 yr-1and a half or more for all of em to lock. when u first get em twisted keep um twisted for 2 months them undo it and redo cause you'll have more dreads. thats all i can think of right now. and its a process so if you aint got patience it's gonna teach a lil thing about it. oh and biotin. invest in biotin my nikka

yezzir my nikka helps the nails, skin, but more importantly now it helps with hair. grows it thicker and cause its water soluble you cant overdo it. just goes out with your piss. i noticed i had a lot of new growth after consistent use. i recommend it breh its not expensive i got 60 5000mcg tablets for $10 and some places have a 2 for 1 deal. all you need to take minimum is 1 per day.
