Did I say they were the same? Don't think so. I made the comparison because ADW would have dealt with the same issues DWP dealt with. (Cops, bougie blacks vs militants, white boyfriend, gay, etc)

The shows are different.
One is about feeling as an outsider on your college campus while the other is about the variance of blackness that takes place on an HBCU campus.
They wouldn't be the same show.
I said TODAYs version of ADW would be dealing with those same issues.

Did you watch DWP on Netflix? IMO maybe 10 - 15% was actually about shytting on white people. Most of the show's first season was introducing all the different types of black characters on the show. The blackface party was just the macguffin of the season. They were all in a Black dorm which could have easily be expanded to an HBCU with a PWI across the street. You want A Different World 2017 to shytt on white people, simple. Just to bring into the real world, NC A&T (#AGGIEPRIDE) finds out about a blackface party happening down the street at UNC Greensboro. There's your macguffin. They all have a meeting about it where you get to meet all the different types of black people at the HBCU. DWP's first season was really about Sam being half white trying to prove her blackness while having a white boyfriend. Put the white boyfriend at UNCG. Another plot point was about about Lionel trying to figure out if he was gay or not and what his roomate would do if he found out. Then you have Joelle selling out trying to be accepted by the white folks. There's the black QB, Mr. HBCU, son of a Black chancellor who's wants his son to lessen his blackness, while secretly fukking a black lesbian teacher. That has nothing to do with the blackface party. These are all easy plot points that could be represented at A Different World 2017. What about the militant Reggie who's in love with Sam, thinks the black QB is a sellout. So you bring back the macguffin for this. Each school want to make nice and they have a party where Reggie gets the gun pointed at him by the cop. That didn't need to happen at a PWI, that could have happened anywhere. That's "Today's special episode of ADW 2017". Most of DWP occurred in that black dorm. There were no white people constantly getting shytt on other than the white boyfriend but they were shytting on Sam more than him.

Lisa Bonet failing on ADW was actually great bc it forced the show to develop around the other characters.
Kinda like how Family Matters was Harriet's show at first until it was bombing and they were forced to ibtroduce and build up Steve Urkel
