Because they're employed to run the team. If you're hired to do a job it's your job to convince the people that hired you that your professional decision is what they should go with. If the owner is running the team and the FO is just doing what they're told then they're worthless.
I mean we can currently point to a lot examples of that in sports right now where the owner is essentially running the team.

More times than not, the owner is going to do whatever they want to do.

It's pretty clear Monty was the wrong fit for such a young roster. FO just threw a bunch of money at a big name.
Honestly, yes. I don’t want to say this is Monty’s fault and I don’t know if he is being misquoted, but I don’t think he has a plan to get the kids right beyond they need to do it for themselves.

Ideally he should have brought in a few vets to institute the culture they wanted on the Pistons. In hindsight I wonder if they should have bit the bullet and traded for CP3, he would have been a hell of a mentor for Cade and Ivey, and has arguably the longest most successful career with Monty.

I think his contract is not guaranteed next year and if GS lets him walk Detroit should see if he would be willing to come there and work with the kids. They need someone to be a go between between them and Monty and teach them winning habits.

If the owner tells you to hire guy X and it doesn't work out guess who gets fired down the line? The team executives have to manage these helicopter owners because those owners not getting fired when it all goes to hell.

Manage them how exactly when they can get shown the door as quickly as the coach and GM can. More times than not the owner gets whatever he wants even at the expense of everyone around him.

If you don't believe that, then look no further than what's going on over there with the Panthers.

I mean they gotta ask themselves are they there to do their job or are they there just to bide time and collect a check until their owner fires them. If the boss tells you to do something and you don't agree with it there is a way to handle that.

The political and government world is completely different from the sports one, so it's not really fair to compare the two.

Let's stick to sports examples as there are enough of them to do so and not move goalpost.

It doesn't have to be political. If any boss at any job tells you to do something you don't want to do that the responsibility of which ultimately falls at your feat then you have a decision to make. If you remain and accept what they tell you to do you don't get to then say I didn't want this. You're complicit and you're also taking the fall when it blows up.

And who’s to say Monte isn’t cool with that considering that he didn’t want the job in the first place until the Pistons upped the bread? Even if he gets fired and does else, the Pistons still owe him the difference.

This is team egregious. Going to Little Caesars Arena is risky due to potentially catching whatever the fukk happened to this franchise.
