I think blacks would support it if it's pushed well. I honestly think they'll just be happy that its a all black cast. We really need to stare away from all these slavery black hero thuggory c00nery hood love stories about baby mommas and independent "strong" black women themes. Y cant we have more serious roles. I respect Steve Mcqueen for his stance on black lead producers/directors. I just dont wanna support his movie. How many slavery movies are we gonna get? Thats about one of the only times where u see a majority of blacks in them. Unless it's a Tyler Perry movie.

I dunno if enough movies truly addressing slavery have been discussed. Why not discuss maroon colonies? Tell the story of blacks in Spanish Florida? We still ain't get that Toussaint movie, its all good to bring more diversity to the stories that black people tell one another but until I've seen real movies speaking truth to power about the black experience both positive and negative I can't ever say we've had enough of certain movies that speak on issues that need speaking on.

Like the poster CykeSummers said, it's going to take a paradigm shift in thought to unshackle our minds from the conditioning. We've come to accept things like racism, life in the ghetto, and slavery as the black experience. I'm not knocking films like this because they have their place. However, films like Madea, Precious, and For Colored Girls often breathe fresh life into age old stereotypes.
There are many blacks who are ready for something different. Those few among us must carry the mantle and see where it gets us. We may not be socially or culturally ready for such a shift but it's worth a try.

I agree I have no problems showcasing our history in serious theme. However, we should also have an agenda for our future and that agenda should be promoted in our films consciously or sub-consciously

yea I think more blacks are beginning to wake up and open thier minds to more possibilities. I'm heavily into sci fi and have written a few short stories. I would really like to start my own book series one day. The thing that has always concerned me is the audience factor and promotion. If I write a novel would there be a large enough margin of black sci fi heads who'll take interest? I'm almost certain black directors ask themselves the same question. If your cast is predominately black it's almost certain whites and other groups won't be checking for it. Which for the most part is to be expected. On the contrary is their a large enough audience of open minded blacks who'll support your work? Is it marketable?

We are the first of a new generation. Just do it. If it doesn't get shine now, in a few decades you will be seen as a pioneer of Black Sci-Fi writings.

Exactly. And the sad thing is we dont even know our true history. We.just know we came from slaves shipped from africa. Thats our history. And we've been put down eversince they gave us away. I feel like we need to fund our own. If only we had the finances and structure to push ourselves as a unit. Instead of waiting for Hollywood to tell our story for us. That's y I respect the documentary Hidden Colors. Some of it might be far fetched but at least we have something giving us a glimpse into our history.

nah....the video posted in the op is from late 2011, right around the time his other film "Shame" was coming out. If they were to blackball him, they would have done it right before he started filming this new one.

I always thought this video was kinda ironic because there's 1 only black person in that movie.

I hate to be the contrarian but here goes:

1. Hollywood runs the movie industry right now in terms of money, influence, and success.

2. Most of the people who support hollywood are NOT the 12% of black people in America...but the nearly 60+% whites.

3. You focus on where the money is.

Movie making isn't about morality. Its about making money.

The sooner ya'll get this, the better off you'll be.

You can't complain about demographics and representation...WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING DEMOGRAPHICS AND REPRESENTATION.
