Asians dominating in Math, Science and Reading, Americans lagging behind

its because the asians stress education over everything.

You think the ass whooping you got and grounding when you got an F on your report card was bad? your pops (if you had one ) whooping that ass one good time when you had to repeat a grade was bad?

These asian parents will not only beat you, but they will tear your down and repeatedly remind you of how much of a dumb ass you are. as you get into the later high school years and college, they will threaten to disown you for bad grades...stop paying your tuition and shyt like that....its driven asian students to suicide.

As a chemistry major that has a lot of international students, I do believe they on average do a lot better in lecture when it comes to scoring high on test. One thing I notice is that they make TERRIBLE lab partners and they can't apply all that info to the real world to save their life. They are really good at memorizing but that won't help anybody in the real world. I had so many international lab students stumble their way through lab and barely pass while they were sitting on a pretty A in lecture.

Most Americans have been lied to believe they have to go to college and do something they love.

So they go in there and learn basket weaving and pot painting.

I was almost a liberal arts major till my old man told me think hard about it.....then I chose computer engineering

Tell me, what do Americans do with their creativity? You mentioned iPods iPhones clothes styles and the like, how does this enhance or strengthen someone's life? Most of the creativity is directed at entertaining one's self rather than enhancing or improving one conditions. Not to mention, most of these creative enterprises arise out of a desire to make money rather than improve one's state. While making money can improve one's state, there isn't always money to be made in solving really problems.

It's a waste. And all the people that choose to come here do it because of the opportunity to increase their financial status and diversify themselves as to their experience, not because they feel America is the best. The only people talking about how America is so great is Americans.

I like how everyone takes time to relate their personal experiences about how international students can't do this or that, but shouldn't we be talking about how Americans are deficient in mathematics and reading and how there's statistical evidence to support such a claim?

Can you really judge creativity though? To be honest, I think that's the laziest reasoning I've ever heard in my life. We're more creative, lol. Your creativity is wasted if it isn't used to solve actual problems like how Americans are behind Europe and Asia in terms of academics.

Actually creativity and innovation is exactly why we lead the world, and will continue too until asia figures it out. They are especially saying that out here in china. "what is calculations good for if we dont have the minds to apply it to products"

I have a creative job here, and they import us because they just plain suck at it. They'll continue to hit a brick wall until they can figure it out. Germany was great because of its innovations and inventions, not because they were good at math, once we imported those german scientists and engineers are markets sky rocketed. Imagination is the most important thing right now, ask Bill Gates. Listen to a Bill Gates lecture its his main point, innovation. He even gave that same lecture here in China.

When China lead the world in technology, they were the most innovative at the time.

The reason we are behind is because it isnt stressed as much. Its not that the kids here are any dumber than kids elsewhere. You take our kids and have them study as rigorously as Asians, put them in an environment that is conducive to learning, and you will have the same results. Even the best schools in the US dont go as hard with the education as they do in those Asian countries.

Honestly i wouldnt even want to subject my child to that. When you have middle school kids pulling all-nighters for entrance exams and high school kids taking IVs while studying you have a huge problem.

Who says America leads the world in creativity and innovation? Honestly, I believe that's the problem, arrogance. Who comes to an argument about how America is falling behind and starts talking about what they're good at rather than the problem they're trying to solve?
