NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
That's what I am saying, DMX that year was big, dude was about to break into the Southern market, like on some Big, and Mase tip. That's why I asked how about Jay and Nas status, were they on some Juvie status, heating up and seeping into other markets in 99, Juvy was big in 99 here, but he was making his rounds in other markets in 99, just like Missy, and other rappers. DMX in 99, was already in other markets that year and tearing shyt up in those markets. I don't think Jay and Nas were tearing shyt up in other markets, they were heating up, just as I mentioned, as Juvie, and others.
Fam. Jay and X did the Hard Knock Life Tour together. U know. The Jay album that sold like 5 million. U buggin out. Lol. It goes X, then Jay, then Nas.

X was bigger once IDAHIH dropped.
Jay took over once Vol. 2 dropped.
X dropped FOMF and had a huge first week, but ultimately didn't outsell Vol 2., so I'm still giving it to Jay.
X drops And Then There was X and was bigger at that point until Blueprint.

also, I forgot to mention the FREE THE LOX mixtape.

If this is the compilation of B sides, freestyles and guest spots (which is comprised of Bad Boy material and newer RR material), I don't see how this helps your argument.

True. Thinking about 1999, the X, Nas, and Jay could go either way. I mean, in 1999, you could argue I Am... as on par or better than And Then There Was X and Vol. 3 in terms of quality. Nastradamus is the worst of the bunch though. He had a crazy run with I Am commercially.

Jay and X had more momentum going into 1999 though.

Yea because Nas ain’t drop nothin in 1998 and that was both X and Jay’s breakout careers. And I Am and And Then There Was X was DEF better than Vol.3 quality wise. Vol.3 was better than Nastradamus but not by much imo. Cause both albums was weak.

How big was Jay and Nas in 99?? I'd go on to say that they weren't really as big as DMX combined together that year or the 98-99 years. Help me out @JustCKing

that volume 2 '98-99 was jay's biggest run. not far behind DMX.

Nas had the big comeback at the top of '99, and re-established himself in 3rd place in the eastern conference. but he screwed up again by the end of the year.

EDIT: I see that im late, but yea, like they said, its was DMX, then jay, then nas. that was the top 3, as far as east coast rappers are concerned. If we're counting everybody then I would rank juvenile ahead of as. and a debate could be had between juvi & jay. but CMR kinda dropped the ball with juvi.

jay didn't become bigger than DMX until circa 2000-01.
when rocafella took over with the dynasty, the clue albums, SP freestyle tape, etc.
all while DMX was out making movies. then when he came back, he never hit that 2nd gear again.

"I am" didn't go head up with those albums tho. it went head up with volume 2 & FOMFBOMB. plus IDAHIH was still getting play.

i don't want to say that he was a distant 3rd, but it was DMX vs jigga, then theres a gap before you mention Nas.

Jay and Nas popularity took a bit of a hit as 199 went on with flopping singles (Jay) or sellout notions (Nas) while DMX's popularity was as strong as 98, he was the top dog
