99, Dude was on WCW and he had some shyt going on with Mya, plus he had It aint my fault 2, it wasn't big as part 1, but he still had folks going out and copping his album when it dropped.
I'm not saying he went triple cardboard, but 98 was definitely his peak. The issue here is whether he was top tier in 99.
To me top tier is some, likely never to be precisely defined mix of records sales, album/singles quality, mic skills, buzz.

Peep how in the other thread the nikkas who was hating on Nas IWW the most and love Roc Marci. Like Big Mel. But saying people ain’t fukk wit IWW. Peep what I posted about what Roc Marci said about that album. nikkas quiet as church mice.
Nas IWW? Never heard of it. Must have been some super underground release in 96 :troll:
All I remember is the radio stations in NY playing Reasonable Doubt 24/7 at such a high volume that we could hear it all the way in CA (also I’m not from LA

I never did check the sales for Reasonable Doubt, but based on all that NY radio play I’m assuming it went diamond :troll:
I think Pac might have dropped an album too that year, but 96 was Jay’s year :troll:

DMX
Jay Z
Nas

^^^ in that order

I would somewhat agree and disagree. In my opinion in 99, DMX wasn't even close to any of these dudes.

I would say Missy, Jay-Z, Nas, was on a steady scale. It's hard for me to describe what I'm saying. But Jay and Nas wasn't even in the same building as DMX, it's like they were the status of Outkast in 98, Jermaine Dupree in a sense status in 98-99

Peaked in 98, I would say he was still Top Tier because No Limit in 99 was still relevant and he was a major player. 99 a Silkk feature would still be checked for

Am I the only one who thought chopper city in the ghetto was just alright? The OG chopper city always got more burn from me
Lots of hardcore CMR fans say this, others like me see both as stone cold classics, I think Mannie upped his game in 99, more fresh and crisp beats and more variety

Exactly. Similar to Nas, the starpower and popularity of No Limit went down hard as 99 came to an end

The original one was his best to me out of the two, but Chopper City in the Ghetto, Mannie production carried that album, BG content was ok, his content was better on the first Chopper City album on top of Mannie's production. That's why I feel the same way. Still a good album.

They were all really big in 99. That was the beauty of the game back then.

I honestly think DMX was big, Like I mentioned in my other post Jermaine Dupree wasn't bigger than DMX, but you could put him in the same bowl as Missy, Jay, Nas and Silkk, and hell even Juvie

I think DMX was the biggest rap star in 99, before Nelly, Em, Ja, Jay came thru in 00/01

That's what I am saying, DMX that year was big, dude was about to break into the Southern market, like on some Big, and Mase tip. That's why I asked how about Jay and Nas status, were they on some Juvie status, heating up and seeping into other markets in 99, Juvy was big in 99 here, but he was making his rounds in other markets in 99, just like Missy, and other rappers. DMX in 99, was already in other markets that year and tearing shyt up in those markets. I don't think Jay and Nas were tearing shyt up in other markets, they were heating up, just as I mentioned, as Juvie, and others.
