I need yall to be good at everything...

I do need more folks who are mechanics, electricians, plumbers, machinist, carpenters...

In addition to folks being doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects, directors, VPs, managers, etc

but more importantly, I need folk to be venture capitalists, CEO, COO, Entrepreneurs, etc

Which is why it's important to suggest everything and not just college. In order to become CEO's and the like you have to have a company and to get that company you have to provide a service which means you need a SKILL. Blacks have no business power because they either have no skills to start a business or they use it to work for someone else and get the fixed income it brings. Whether people like it or not the powerful corporations started as regular small businesses that provided a service and they were able to charge top dollar because they were real good at what they were doing.

I think he is right. Of course everyone can't do it but a lot of people can but they aren't pushed towards it as another option. It is a way of working for yourself and being able to live well if you know how to hustle. Having a skilli is insurance that you can always provide for yourself ANYWHERE YOU GO IN THIS WORLD. I think one of the reason blacks have such high economic problems is the lack of skills and only doing the college hustle which means a lot of competition for the same job and we know a lot of people will not get those jobs and because they have no skills they either have to take small paying jobs with a fixed salary or be shyt out of luck until they can find a job. Jobs that require skills is how my mother and grandfather fed their families and we lived well, not rich but we weren't needing for anything and the same for my mother but she knew how to hustle when customers were low. Having skills also save you money because if you need your hair done or toilet and sink fixed instead of paying someone that money can go to bills, investing or food or buying something you really want. If you have no skills you will always be spending money which means you will always have a high overhewhich means you will always be chasing the dollar instead of enjoying life and/or making power moves.

the reason why black people have law income is directly related to education and the low number of black people that go to college

If more black people went into trades it would lower the overall income of blacks

That wouldn't give ownership of the community, the real power in any community is the corporations and politicians, and to get into that world you generally need a college degree

By focusing on trades it would create a permenant underclass that work for politicians and corporations

I'm not knocking trades, but thats a personal choice, young black males should whatever the fuk they want as long as its positive and productive and they graduate from high school

I get where the OP is going with this. The real problem is lack of understanding about the racket behind these just add water high interest loans.

Most youngsters thinking about college fail to do their homework and end up taking out loans they won't ever pay back cause they are too thirst for the instant cash and want some new gear to impress the bytches. :pacspit:

The real problem with black brothers and sisters is that college (community or four year) is just the 13th grade, and they waste time that could be spent studying and making real power moves chasing hoes and fantasizing about being a walk-on at some Division 1 program :heh:

Learning a trade might actually be a legitimate option for a lot of these dummies cause at the very least if they know how to hook up cable I won't have to see em at the Kodak Theatre homemade CD in hand talkin bout "support the movement"

Where does this idea come from the trades lead to the lower class ? Many of the trades lead to a comfortable middle class life, just like majority of those getting college degrees. My father owned him own Sewer Cleaning company, just him. He had to retire in 97 because of a non work related injury but he was making around 100K a year. Many tradesman end up starting their own businesses. You can't do that with a college degree working for some corporation trapped in middle management hell. I'm not saying kids now a days should forget about college and go into the trades. But this attack on the trades is fukking false on so many levels.

another thing the op is leaving out is that a lot of these loans are from trade schools, it's more expensive to go to trade school than it is to go to a cc or public university

If somebody is worried about loans the main thing they should do is stay away from private schools, which would include most trade schools becuase most trade schools are private

and start thinking about vocational schools. In the next decade or so when the baby boomers start retiring, there's gonna be a massive shortage of trades skill positions like mechanics, electricians, plumbers, machinist, carpenters etc. Its not glamorous work but u can make a KILLING out here doing this if u got the skills and the certification.

There needs to be a change in mindset among some about this "you gotta go to a four year college"...trade schools, as well as some community colleges are where its at.

fukk outta here with that Booker T Washington ass talk. Black people need to GO to school PERIOD.

I'm not attacking trade school, I said people should do whatever they want, there is nothing wrong with trade school, there is something wrong with telling young black males to focus on trade schools

The stats say college degree holders make more money that somebody that goes to trade school and trade schools can be more expensive than college and what exactly is wrong with being stuck in middle management in corporate america, so that's a bad thing now?

why don't we just make sure people graduate from high school and then let people do whatever the fuk they want and whatever they find interesting whether it's corporate america or being a plumber, who are we to tell somebody what fits them?

Yup.

There are many lessons one can learn from this financial crisis/recession. One of them is that having a high in-demand skill makes u a king whether it be IT skills, trade skills or high end skills/knowledge like engineering, medicine etc. There are plenty out there right now that thought they were set having any 4 year degree...and now find themselves in a competition for jobs that pay below what they were getting before or expected outta college. Its really fukked up but thats the changing world....see "occupy" folks.

Moral of the story is...to size up what the labor market will be years from now and get the SKILLS to meet the demand...trades skills is just ONE avenue.

And you're telling people that working with your hands is a bad thing. I have no problem with going to college and I'm leaning towards going back to college myself over the trades but your bullshyt about the trades leading to a life of lower class income is ridiculous.

if black people focus on trade it will lead to a permenant underclass because in our society money and power are held by politicians and corporations, trade school pretty much excludes you from that world

But I never said there was anything wrong with trades school in and of itself, I said there is something wrong with telling young black males that they should focus on it, from the very beginning I said people should do whatever they want

Lol, middle management in most corporations pay around 150k breh. Middle management is not as bad as it seems. It's just you are a victim of the chopping blade if shyt goes bad. Trade School are a good way to go but whether its college or vocational school we need to make business ownership our ultimate goal. Therefore creating a pool of collective wealth within our communities, keeping it within and starting our own self-sufficient banking system, similar to what we were beginning to develop post slavery.
