Imbalance of power. Slave states were fearful that the union was trying to usurp overall power. The union itself didn't really give a shyt about the practice of slavery necessarily, it was more about political leverage.
What led to the imbalance of power? Why were the SLAVE states worried the North was trying to usurp power?
What facts support the conclusion that the North didnt give a shyt about slavery?

Meaning and symbolism of the flag or any other symbolic thing varies from person to person. You and I interpreting it different is an example of how a symbol is open to interpretation. People who are ignorant of the history might see it one way, people who know the history might see it another way.
Do certain symbols have commonly held meanings?

Difference in culture, slavery, different economies to name a few. They were worried because more non-slave states in the union meant slave states would be at the mercy of their control. The North by and large didn't see slavery as a reprehensible crime against humanity. Most of them only were against it because it was a means of political control.

They gave a shyt about it, just not in the context you and a lot of people tend to think. Even the emancipation proclamation itself was a means of causing major instability within the CSA, and also, most white people in the united states considered blacks by and large free or un-free as inferior. But not everybody thought this way.

:heh: I just told you what it represents. It represents the CSA. It does not represent slavery. You associate it with one thing, a white dude from the south whose family may or may not have owned slaves associates it with another thing.

The war was fought because the south seceded from the union, not because the south practiced slavery.

Yes slavery was part of the tension, but there was much more going on than just slavery that led to secession.

The flag is a symbol of rebellion and southern heritage to a lot of people, the former of which is seen as an admirable trait.

There all kinds of evils beyond slavery that were committed by those who flew the flag we honor today, but we still like to see the good things it represents over the bad.

Southerners who identify with their flag see it the same way.
Why did the south secede? What was the much more going on?
List some of the evils that are beyond slavery. I don't disagree that the American flag has blood/dirt on it.
What I do dispute is that the confederate flag is not a universally agreed symbol of racism. It may have other meanings to certain people, but that doesn't change the fact that as a society we have agreed that the confederate flag is an abhorrent symbol.

Of course they do, virtually every symbol does, but define common. The common meaning to classmates in Liberia, classmates in Charleston, and classmates in Seattle is different.
