Can anyone in this thread explain why The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2, arguably the top two games of last generation, aren't "walking simulators?"

What separates these two from anything in Sony's first party AAA catalog?
The Witcher 3 is an RPG. It’s far and away very different than any of the other games mentioned.

The rest are all more or less in the same boat. RDR2 is fukkin egregious with that movie shyt :scust:

Witcher 3 got longer cutscenes than any other game listed :laff:

Its most definitely a “movie” game by your definition, and the gameplay is trash so you can’t even lean on that this time

Again if y’all are confused as to what makes a movie game, just refer to this definition.
When you think of cinematic, you think of movie like features with Life like acting, cinematic angles, crazy action set pieces and story telling. Games before UC2 certainly weren't life like because there just wasn't anything able to do so.
These the design decisions @Fatboi1 you seem to rather enjoy them. Why are you so confused when i refremce them?

Yeah, all of that are elements of a game's overall production values. That alone doesn't just make a game less of a game and on the flip side, it doesn't suddenly make all games the "same" because those same elements apply to virtually every game out that has a modest budget.

" Life like acting, cinematic angles, crazy action set pieces and story telling. "

You can find all of this in fukking Mortal Kombat 11. You can find this in Halo Infinite, Bayonetta, GTA, hell any game with a campaign mode has all of this.

Calling it a "movie" game as a pejorative is fukking retarded. As a matter of fact, it's not retarded, YOU ARE.

Ironically enough I don't like control :ohhh:
Ironically enough you like Ghost of Tsushima, a 'm0vIe gAmE".:ohhh:
Ff7
Ghost
Yakuza like a dragon
Last of us 2
Wasteland 3
These games are all "movie" games. Your top games of 2020 are "movie" games. Yet none of these games are in the same genre. FFVIIR doesn't play or feel anything like TLOU2 or Yakuza. Ghosts of Tsushima is nothing like TLOU2 or Horizon or Spider-Man. Yet you idiots call them all movie games as a diss.

You guys are beyond meat stupid. You cannot seriously cannot logically explain how "movie" games when it comes to Sony exclusives tend to not be good to you yet when explained in detail, those same elements are your top games of previous years. It's like me saying I hate "stealthy games" and start stanning Thief or Splinter-cell and shyt on MGS for having stealth elements.

Absolutely insane :mjlol:

Lets be honest, the only reason they consider some games “movie” games and not others is because sony is incredibly good at making them and invest a considerable budget into them.

The only way they can downplay it at this point is to hate on the very thing they excel at, production value. If you give them the same game as a 3rd party multiplatform game, same structure, same amount of cutscenes, worse gameplay, they won’t categorize it as such.

According to these assclowns the only valid games are games like Psychonuts 2 (a game they never seem to shut up about), High on Life, or Grounded, i.e. games so childish in their production values and presentation that no one would ever mistake them for a movie

Hey man. You clearly have an idea of what a movie game is. Don’t know why you decided to play dumb in 2023.

As you said ND pioneered it. Everyone is just following at this point.
