I saw this coming a mile away.

People not wanting to go to theaters and wanting to stream everything has forced studios to adapt.

They don’t want to take risks anymore. DVD’s which provided backend income don’t exist anymore.

Consumers basically want something for nothing. Half the time people spoil/leak movie details months before it drops.

This is a lie. They are making more money than ever

Nobody wants to pay for a bunch of shyt they don't watch and streaming has become the new cable. If you watch a show here and there, then add up all the money you pay for different apps, you end up paying more than you did for satellite
Well then they can just do pay per view for everything. But wait…. If you go to the theater you have to pay per person. But PPV, 20 people can watch for the price of 1. Which is also why steaming service has started to crack down on users giving out their login info.

Then, there’s always the bootleggers.

At the end of the day, movies and tv shows are a luxury. And a lot of people aren’t willing to pay for it.

This right here. It’s an insane business model and in the end, it hurts the artists just like music. The streaming services are going to get theirs regardless. It’s insane that I have instant access to all this content for less than $30 a month across several streaming services. To be honest, all this content is a bit overwhelming as a consumer.

A bit of irony with Disney + tho. When it first launched, people complained about it not having enough original/new content. Then Marvel and Lucas films flooded the app with new content. Now people are saying it’s too much.

As far as the old model with movies it was simple.

Theater for 3 to 4 months
DVD/BluRay release
Sell the right for cable to play it
Sell the right for network TV to play it.

Now its

Theaters for 2-3 months
Video on Demand shortly after or in some cases simultaneously
Streaming

he overlooked the fact that directors can/will change a script on the fly or they just do a shytty job at directing. it takes some studio exec's approval to get your shyt on a network, or in theaters, with a proper budget. If the folks who run shyt don't like your script it'll never see the light of day, or worse it will be dumbed down. you can go pitch somewhere else, but they might not have the budget or you might not have the name. Studios want proven moneymakers (hence 11 sequels to F&F, or low budget M. night shamalyanahan films with shytty twists that do big numbrrs) and they're afraid to take risks.

there are so many variables when it comes down to it.

SO many variables. Man... People don't even know the half of it...

I don't know what the purpose of that reply was. Yeah, Disney can afford to take an L on She-Hulk but it sounds like they are about to take an L on Secret Invasion as well, otherwise they wouldn't be discussing how much it cost to make. They also took Ls on Ant-Man and Indiana Jones and Elemental... nobody is going to their theme parks..

Listen, there is a reason why the stock has cratered back down to $90, There is a reason why they are laying off 7,000 employees including all the talent they let go at ESPN. They are not doing great financially.

And Bob Iger is supposed to be trying to fix this but he was part of the root of the problem with these out of control budgets and the fact they went all in on Disney+ which is not yet profitable.

He's not totally lying that some of the demands of the writers/actors are 'unrealistic' but they are unrealistic because these studios have tanked their own companies while people like him are making hundreds of millions.

i do bootlegs and stream a lot, but it's risky. there's a lot of stuff you can't PPV, like shows. You can figure out a way to do unlimited trials by having a hundred email addresses.......but at that point you might as well google what happened.

These lames wanna blame everyone but themselves.

They did all kinds of research and planning for the pricing of these streaming services. Most likely wanted to price competitively with cable and rental spots. Now that they pretty much beat cable they wanna say

"Yall spoiled asses are costing these writers and actors good pay! "

dikkheads will do anything but take accountability.

Kinda wonder whether a partial solution is taking advantage of network television, if you can. For instance Disney owns ABC. What if they dramatically altered ABC scheduling by adding Disney+ content alongside the sports content that is already there. I see no reason why something like Mandolorian shouldn't be on television. Most people who sub to Disney+ do it to watch 30+ old movies anyway. Pumping up ABC's ratings Mon-Fri seems like an obvious W. In the fall, the football ratings are through the roof. Run promos for your shows and see what happens. MCU shows Monday and Tuesday, Star Wars shows Wednesday and Thursday, whatever else on Friday, football on Saturday.

Even if new eps are available first on Disney+ (at midnight for instance) I don't think it would matter to older viewers, plus there are plenty of younger viewers who don't pay for streaming and would watch. Unlocking CBS type ratings on ABC could completely change this conversation.
