the truth is netflix shows and movies don't have legs or "water cooler talk" in part because 97% of their content is garbage. no one is rushing to talk about stranger things, the crown or glow after watching an episode or season.

to this day the wire is still talked about. sopranos is always in the talks of classic must watch shows and their recent IPs like true detective s1 and s3 are classics. then you have the middle of the road shows that are still great like insecure, barry, succession, etc. i can go on but you get the point. netflix have a content problem.
Netflix doesn't reach the highs HBO reaches but they're a vastly superior entertainment option just based on numbers alone

If you sat people down and said "one gotta go, Netflix or HBO" the vast majority throwing HBO in the bushes :yeshrug:

this article is basically much ado about nothing on some water is wet shyt.

Yes, GoT is a hit, but holding it against Netflix that it doesn't have something similar is dumb. Netflix is not sweating HBO, but I guarantee you HBO has been sweating Netflix for years. Netflix came through, crushed buildings, and changed the game. They set a template for everybody else to run with and none of them are going to catch up, ever

Netflix got some trash, but nowhere near as much trash as Amazon

You pick an Amazon flick to watch at random and there's at least a 60% chance it's some low budget boo boo :mjlol:

This article is pretty pointless. Netflix is just fine.

Now if we talking binge vs weekly it all depends on the show to me. I don’t pay attention to shows when I binge. Hell I don’t finish most of them until months later. Weekly I feel more urgency to see right away.

Netflix is doing fine. The only problem they have is with quality. Most of the series and movies they hype are trash. They have mastered the art of making a fire trailer though. Thats how the sucker you in.. then they follow the same formula.. starting off with an interesting and catchy premise then falling off hard or failing to explain anything.

Amazon distributes flicks that are constantly up for major awards including the Oscars :francis: and "The Big Sick" actually ending up being profitable for them earning 56.4 mil on a 5 mil budget.

Yeah Amazon is better in the movie game than Netflix, it's just that they only have like 2 or 3 series worth watching

that wasn't my point but ok

but I'll play along, one gotta go, which streaming service are people choosing?

also as far as awards Netflix ain't doing to shabby itself :ehh:
Netflix finally broke its Oscar curse with 15 nominations, including its first for best picture and some surprises

There's only a handful of shows that are water cooler fodder anyways. Then the article uses GOT as the benchmark. That's like using Bill Gates as the benchmark of what everyone tech and IT guy should aspire to be. Not to mention I hear each GOT's episode cost like $10 million plus to make. Season 8 is going to cost $15 million per episode. And what about Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, AMC, etc. They air shows traditionally, so they don't have a GOT's problem? What kind of heat are they producing these days outside of one or two hits?

I’m day 1 fan but I’m glad I’m engaged to a women who has no interest in watching the show just because everyone else is watching it and talking about it at work.

Parrot Analytics does a great job at tracking digital demand world wide.

I recommend visiting their web site for a real time look at what people are watching. They did a snap shot of 9 countries outside the US
.Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, UK and Spain. At the high end, Spain registered with 79% of their digital
viewership's engagement with Netflix and UK at the low end with 65%. So all 9 countries at least 65% of those who stream, stream Netflix.

Amazon is the nearest challenger registering 12% in some countries. Did they forget the US? No, they did a 2018 wrap up all
streaming shows and Netflix scored 16 out of the top 20. Only 2 of those 16 will Netflix eventually lose to Disney. 2 others are cancelled.
The other 12 aren't going anywhere. They are:

  • Adventures of Sabrina,
  • Stranger Things
  • Orange New Black
  • 13 Reasons
  • House Haunted Hill
  • Voltron
  • Black Mirror
  • Narcos (Spanish/English)
  • Money Heist (Spanish)
  • Ozark
  • Bojack Horse
  • Queer Eye.

Of the 4 non-Netflix shows in the top 20 - Cobra Kai Youtube Handmaid's Tale
Hulu Titans DC Universe and Star Trek CBS - not one Amazon series.
Finally, Parrot Analytics did a break down of the most popular US streaming services for
"Digital Originals" and the viewership loyalties, they break down as such:

Netflix 68%, Amazon 10%, Hulu 9%, CBS 5%, DC Universe 1%, all others 7%

My friends, Netflix currently has more than 2.5x the viewership of everyone else combined, right here in the US.

Seriously b....our threads are so out of the place that you can't comment until you finish watching the show and then you have to mass post all the thoughts you had over an 8+ hour span

I agree

The best idea I could come up with in my head is either a episode by episode thread (which would absolutely spam this section) or a every 3 episodes threads so "Narcos season 5 : episodes 1-3 discusión thread"

It is a mystery

Ok what is this point we are missing
This isnt a netflix vs other service or saying netflix needs to swaggerjack game of thrones, its just saying the season drops, while convenient for viewing schedules, is not the best for hype and life of the programming itself. A show cant carry netflix like GoT can carry HBO even though netflix has original content which is still thought highly of for this reason

Compare most netflix shows to the dbs thread for example. Some of those netflix shows could be better written then dragonball super but none of them are fukking with the hype of that thread since they dont have boiler room talk, predictions, etc.
