This is true. I just read an article about how HBO has a GoT problem because there isn’t another big show like this on the horizon.

The genie is out of the bottle for Netflix tho... they can’t go back. Plus part of their success was that you could watch everything at once. Now what needs to evolve is how we do threads for those shows. I think other boards do a thread per episode. That way you can talk with folks right along with you.
Seriously b....our threads are so out of the place that you can't comment until you finish watching the show and then you have to mass post all the thoughts you had over an 8+ hour span

That's saying that shows cant reach GoT levels which is false. Walking dead did it. Breaking bad did it. LOST was the originator.
:dwillhuh:

People ain't REALLY start fukking with Breaking Bad until season 4.

shyt was averaging under 2M viewers its first 4 years, jumped up to almost 4.5M in season 5.

You only named 3 shows and only GOT is on premium cable and is putting up major numbers despite being the most pirated show of all time.

I don't think this is an either, or situation. Both methods of release have their inherent qualities. There are a lot of shows that had potential but never reached it because they weren't able to hook the viewer in right away. The Netflix model helps a show like You (which was originally on Lifetime but they threw it in the bushes) get popular and get a second season. HBO is the king of event television over a period of time. Netflix more is the king of the buildup to a show and that frenzy to watch it once it goes live. I personally prefer the traditional model but not every show is going to create enough hype for people to care about tuning in week to week. House of Cards would have been a great week to week watch. Russian Doll is a great/easy binge. I think Netflix could benefit from wisely transitioning certain properties to a weekly format, but it doesn't have to. Netflix buzz is different from HBO buzz. If we're being honest, no one has HBO level buzz anyway.
This is facts. Black Mirror would've been the perfect shyt to do that with too.

Put the quality hbo against the Netflix ones... shyt don't compare at all breh. :yeshrug:

In terms of absolutes yeah HBO got this with the wire and GoT alone since those are the 2 best shows ever.

But once you go deep in the bench Netflix has better shows (narcos, black mirror, stranger things, Russian doll, alternate carbon, lost in space, dare devil, Luke cage, punisher, ozarks Jessica Jones, etc..)

Personally I prefer being able to watch a whole season at my pace...

Netflix taking a stab at the GOT fantasy genre with Witcher...

If done right (judging by the casting it won't be) it could be a huge success but nothing will ever rival GOT...

The GOT spinoffs won't even reach that level of success...

HBO out here looking like the New England Patriots the past two decades. "Will NEVER land anything like GoT again, was lucked into." Yet also have classic GOAT shows like The Sopranos and The Wire in their portfolio.

KANG shyt. :wow:

So Cal
Game of Thrones is only as popular as it is because it had the framework of the greatest fantasy series ever written (yes, I'm a big fan of Tolkien's books, but knew immediately that GRRM had surpassed him when I read A Storm of Swords back in 2003; I posted mad shyt on the Westeros forums back in the day talking about this series in film or TV would be gigantic). HBO will never be that lucky again. Netflix has nothing to worry about. Watch what happens when people get bored of the Game of Thrones prequels and spin-offs that will have none of the magic. See what happened when Weiss and Benioff had no more dialogue and plot to crib from Martin? They at least had his notes and a definitive ending. That blank page is gonna hit them hard.
Hbo done had big shyt outside that. shyt peak True blood still way bigger than any netflix shyt. True detective season 1 the same. I agree the show dipped in quality when they passed the books, but it's only gotten bigger. :manny:

Nothing original Netflix has made has been big as GoT. Plenty of their shows have been talked about, but not across a ton of demographics to the point where you can just say to someone off the street: 'who's your favourite character?' For every 1000 fans that like a show on Netflix there's 2000 people who have never heard of it. Meanwhile with GoT you've got people making a point of how they don't watch it.

Also Bird Box is a movie that's different
Stranger things is huge , bright birdbox had huge metric data as well. Also people I know will get hbo now and cancel it when it’s over as opposed to Netflix which I’ve had for so many years on loop I don’t even pay attention to the price increase.
