Article is simply pointing out a flaw in the binge model. No need for the catching if feelings
The thing is tho, its old news. There were about 15-30 articles on this very subject 5-6 years ago when Netflix first started dropping entire seasons at once. Ya'll acting like this is brand new fodder that's never been discussed before.

These are articles written in 2013 about the same subject:

Netflix and On-Demand Aren't Killing 'Water-Cooler TV'—They're Saving It - The Atlantic

The MacTaggart Lecture: How Netflix killed the watercooler moment – and breathed new life into TV | Kevin Spacey | Opinion | The Guardian

Could Netflix’s programming strategy kill the golden age of TV?

-To do the same article in 2019 and to make the almighty super-powerful GOT as the foundation and floor for the argument is cheap, bandwagonish, and beating a dead horse to death. Plus GOT is damn near over with. What's the next water-cooler show that HBO has lined up?

There was a huge gap between The Wire/Sopranos and Game of Thrones.

It's done 3 seasons and is no where near a phenomenon. It lost its chance after Season 2 was meh.

There bestt shot right now is Succession and I would actually bet against it being water cool talk level even tho I like it a lot.
You are not always going to hit a home run during your at-bat. What you can hope for is a single, a stolen base here and there, and a little blooper to midfield to sustain you until you get to your 4-hole hitter.

I agree but everything is GOT right now. I actually had HBO on my cable subscription back in The Wire/Sopranos/Curb era. Top of the line entertainment but at the same time GOT benefits from this present day social media era. Matter of fact whites didn't really watch The Wire until it became trendy and hip about 3-4 years after it was done with.

-also on a side note. Breaking Bad wasn't really making serious noise until the first couple of seasons it hopped on Netflix and everybody binged them then was:lupe: :wow:and then was ready in anticipation for the new seasons-week to week on AMC. Mad Men(a show that HBO passed on) also got a huge bump from being on Netflix as well. And these are two of the best shows(water cooler talk included) ever. It works both ways if you ask me:ehh:

For every great series HBO has it has 7-10 clunkers. They are not superior in picking content especially recently. I prefer Netflix content moreso nowadays. FX has been better the last few years as well.

Lies. Even a show like VEEP is better than most of what's on regular television. Westworld is aight it's still better than most TV shows. All FX got is Atlanta.

HBO's next big hit is coming, but it's not on the line-up yet for 2019 or 2020. It's gonna hit us when we least expect it to.

I'll cry tears of joy if it ends up being a crime drama ala Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire.

The Versace shyt killed the Emmy's, The Americans was called the best thing on TV and Snowfall is great.
Veep has overstayed, should have ended like 2 or 3 years ago. I used to watch it and stopped. But I was talking about shows like Camping, Crashing, Ballers, Divorce, Mosaic, Togetherness and Vinyl, etc.

The basis of the article has a point: Netflix’s programming model isn’t made for sustained discussion. It’s easier to be a “water cooler” show when you’re week to week. You sustain momentum and a conversation. When house of cards or orange is the new black started years ago, there were a lot less options. So most of these shows on Netflix have their convo for the weekend because everyone rushes to get through them.

The world will rush through stranger things 3 because everyone wants to be first and because people are afraid of spoilers and act like they can’t stay off the internet. So that convo will reach its apex during July 4th weekend and after that, on to the next thing. Something like game of thrones can be a topic for weeks because it’s new eps every week.

Doesn’t mean Netflix has a “problem” or are in any trouble at all. Just means their model hinders certain aspects of conversation and gives their shows less time in the limelight.

Pretty sure that’s one of the reasons they want to start being more transparent with their numbers now

And I will cancel my hbo while keeping my Netflix
