AAs are seen as not African enough...

Like we are just the facsimile of White people... but have Black skin.

And it doesn't help that AAs and Americans in general see shyt like food and music as "culture" which it's not, those are cultural products made for mass consumption and exchange.

When people see you...as nothing but the group of people that put seasoning on their food and they can dance and sing really good...then you gonna be treated as such and you gonna feel as such.

AA's need to look to WEB Dubois, David Walker and Frederick Douglass as the root of Black American culture instead of looking to fukking Michael Jackson, Oprah and Jay Z.

Every other group in the America, when it comes down to their culture, they look towards their philosophical and political leader.

They don't think about their food and music...

So yeah, AA's have a culture problem, we don't know what it is.

Culture isn't how you wear your hair, or what you eat or the music you listen to, it is how you view the world. Everything else is cultural products for sell and exchange.

Asians have Confucius, Western Europeans got Aristotle and Plato...who do African Americans point to, to represent their intellectual and philosophical heritage?

Culture is also defined by the arts as well. To downplay us with century old philosophers comes off as disingenuous. We have poetry through the eyes of maya angelou and langston Hughes, poignant music from the likes of Nina simone and Billie holliday, hell we've created whole genres of music that the world enjoys and we still tend to be trendsetters in those matters. What was the last thing Greece was known for culturally?

Food and music isn't culture...

And we are already know who we are...

That's thing....

I ain't confused about who I am...

I have no desire to look towards Africa

I don't need to put on a daishiki

I don't feel the need to think food and music is what defines me...I do not point to celebrities and food dishes to signify my African Americanness...that's stupid...

No Nigerian man is gonna give you some Fufu and say this defines me...

The fact that when people think of African Americans and think about fried chicken and collard greens is offensive as fukk...so no...food doesn't fine me...

I have my cultural heroes...I got David Walker, Frederick Douglass, WEB Dubois, Alain Locke..they tell me who I am and where I come from...and people can go read what they wrote and what they said and what they did and get the entire meaning of what it means to be an African American...

That's the point of culture...

And you are annoying as fukk...you always defenisive like a hoe on the block..

Always being passive aggressive like a bytch...

Aye man, i love food and music with all my heart but I feel u :russ:

U spitting some real shyt

I think it’s because caribbrehs where able to retain part of their culture by concealing their knowledges when they got converted to Catholicism but don’t get it fukk up we all get looked down upon by some Africans as being descendent of those who got captured
What I don't get is, if you were able to retain parts of your culture or all of it, why is bleaching being done in the caribbean, and parts Africa?

Why is there still colorism? Why are they still christians, and strong ones at that?

To me, every black person who says they kept their culture are way worse then black americans, because you have reasons to not buy into white supremacy, but you still do?

Now that I'm thinking about it, that makes me think they may be more dangerous to us, because they are willingly going against us, by taking on a specific mind state, yet they have no choice but to live around us, and smile:troll:, but with some, they have no connection with us. This makes it easy to not care when shyt happens to us, and to come up then just hire your own if you decide who gets a job at a certain company.

I never even thought about this until now!:ohhh:

I wonder how the people who don't feel this way about black americans, deal with family, and friends, who do?

Old racist cacs unfortunately.

At least thats what taught in schools.

That's true. We aren't taught our intellectual history in primary education.

We won't even learn that if we go to college unless you wanted to.

Only reason I know is because I was curious.

Here you go again with the passive aggressive racism :heh:

"Culture: Culture is the social behavior and norms found in human societies. Culture is considered a central concept in anthropology, encompassing the range of phenomena that are transmitted through social learning in human societies"

Due to our history of oppression we have always expressed ourselves thru music and food. This started during slavery becuz we had no choice. Our culture starts from having to cope with our situation. Frederick Douglas embodied that. He learned to read, escaped, and became a historical figure as a result. Everything he achieved as a free man was the result of him coping with his situation as a black man in America. At the same time we only been free for 150 years and we are still trying to figure out who we are.

Confucius, Aristotle, and Plato? Those societies had been around 100s of years before these dudes surfaced. Gives us time

Music was literally for survival, one of the few ways of getting out of slavery was that. Before Elvis and zep and all that shyt, we taught their children music and mastered western instruments easily and created new instruments from African and western ones.

There is a reason why a lot of brehs go into music, genetics and it is still seen as a way to become a free man.

Blues has its roots in slave chants and pain.
