Who tried to copy OutKast?
Nappy roots, earthgang, Backwoodz, Youngblood’s, etc. The attic crew seemed to follow a lot of the formula of the 1st generation of the dungeon family. It was just less funk, and abstract artistry, but more street shyt. Plenty of other individuals have tried to emulate Dre over the years.

Damn i was gone say spitta til i read op and thought about it. Everybody stole some of his styles. I don't think we have any artists like that these days if we consider that most of they styles were put together from previous acts.

Maybe 3 stacks

I was just thinking that everybody who signed to his label pretty much rapped how he did and said the same things he said. Even fiend, once he signed over there.

Lowkey, Lauryn Hill.

We still haven't seen a mainstream female rapper try to dabble in Lauryn's lane and artistry to this day. Lil Kim and Trina are the real blueprint for today's female rappers in the mainstream.

Rick Ross
DMX
Eminem
50 Cent
50 definitely influenced everyone with the kicking up dust before album releases. Plus the mixtapes and DVD sound bites. I think Troy ave was kind of going for a 50ish lane but with none of the elements that made 50, 50. I think Saigon was kind of marketed to be the next 50. Game’s original marketing was all about him being shot 5 times.

50 also influenced tons of rappers oversesas.

A lot of rappers in countries like the UK, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, and even parts of Asia have cited 50 as an influence.

They may not have had the success but there are plenty of female rapper/singers that tried either tried or were marketed towards her lane (round the way young black girl that’s a musical prodigy and breath of fresh air that’s not like the others)

Influence is more than someone trying to emulate someone else's style. That said, it would have to be Ja Rule. He had hits, sold a lot of records, but really didn't impact the game like his contemporaries or even artists who came after.

I think 50 was influenced a lot by Eminem and Ja rule when it came to hooks.

DMX shocking the world with ruff ryders anthem had half the rap game coming out with stripped down, contrived ass anthems, produced by swizz beats all 1999-2000 lol. The song was so great that we had to sit through a million “Memph bleek is’” until Rick rock came around to make our ears bleed lol. Plus I think he helped end the whole “jiggy/shiny suit” era.

Most Georgia artists and groups that came out after 1998 pulled from the influence of UGK, OutKast, Gooddie mob, or 8 ball mjg. Some were also influenced by cool breeze, lil KeKe, cash money, etc.

Low key I feel Rick Ross was marketed as the next Jeezy and rapped like him as well with the whole “I’m not a rapper, I’m a trapper, even though I’m a rapper”. Same content similar cadence. Say a statement, say an adlib during the pause, say another statement/punchline that rhymed

Ray cash and rich boy were marketed to be the next TI’s. Arista was weird about that.
