Lowkey, Lauryn Hill.

We still haven't seen a mainstream female rapper try to dabble in Lauryn's lane and artistry to this day. Lil Kim and Trina are the real blueprint for today's female rappers in the mainstream.
Rapsody, Noname, and Doja Cat - among MANY other artists have pointed to her being directly influential on their work

Tink sort of kind of tried but then the rap shyt wasn’t working so she just went rnb. Tierra Whack had some potential but she barely releases music…I guess that’s Lauryn Hill esque in a way.
Tierra Whack dropped three EPs late last year

Low key it’s Nas but nikkas ain’t ready to have that conversation

Overall great career..but he doesn’t have any “sons” or people who tried to emulate his style

Didn't 50 say Jam Master Jay encourage him to focus on hooks and being musical? I mean...POTD was full of hooks before he even blew up.
And you could say his best performance on a song is way before he went mainstream. With Ghetto Quran. That aggressive content with melodic hooks.
And that was before ja started singing. Remember he came in as a pac/dmx lil clone Hollering.

I know people want to credit Ja with the whole rappers singing who weren't singers wave, but plenty of rappers did that. Nas was doing it on "Street Dreams", Biggie on "Get Money" and "Crush On You". Snoop Dogg was doing it. Nelly's whole style is built off if it.

And in terms of Drake, Missy, Latifah, Lauryn, Cee Lo, etc. were all rap singing.

Ja Rule did popularize that whole rapper who was singing thug in love style. Even 50 Cent who dissed dude bit that style.
