had a chance to read more of your sentiment and the one thing that has always stuck out is this

this was and always will be the biggest trouble for this site. At some point you run out of shyt to say. Short of something like "a book of the month" club type thing to help foster discussion we're going to run into that.

Based on the 1000 of people who were here during the election night romps we know HL gets read, maybe not responded to but when you think about it HL is like a shark tank, not manny fish willing drop into a shark tank unless they to are sharks.

Most 14-20 year old are gonna have a hard time in here if they aren't given the opportunity to really learn.

Matter of fact Tangental story time.
I have a 19 year old. He came to me about a week ago talking about Niburu and about 2012 shyt right. He's a smart guy for the most part, but he had some serious questions he just didn't knwo answers to. If he where to come in here asking the questions he asked me his head would have been bitten clean the fuk off. However, as he was my son I directed him towards a better way and now we poke fun at "those" people together (family bonding).

Point being there are a lot of people out there that JUST DON'T KNOW. and there's nothing wrong with that, but when WE (HL) cannot provide a forum for that type of lack of knowledge to be addressed then really wtf we doing here?

You know what we need? A HL welcoming committee.

maybe. but most of the people that come in here talking about that far out niburu type shyt don't really ask about it. they have their heels dug in already and spout it off as fact, then defend it all costs (no matter how much evidence to contrary is presented) instead of really trying to learn.

HL trying to explain science:

2DI6z.jpg

LMAO what sad is it's true.
SOmeone finds some "research" done by "some scientists" on a subject and all of a sudden it's gospel in some people's minds.

It's like Nambla putting out a research study that boy sex cures makes you live longer. 1/2 the clowns in here would be hoovering around their local middle school that very afternoon.

You know on some levels HL is the internet equivalent to the black market for Albino magic :(

ah but see so was my son.
"BUT I SAW PICTURES ON YOUTUBE", "BUT I READ ON THIS SITE..."

it was a low moment for me as a father to be honest, i was like "i thought i raised you better than that..."

Personally i don't change my mind unless i can challenge the counter point being made. In other words if you say something that challenges what i believe I'm gonna question the fuk out of your stance and try to disprove it. If i can't well then that's when i change my mind. A lot of people are like that...

The danger of that on a message board is that there is a VERY FINE line between a troll and someone with a "knowledge" founded in BOGUS facts.

It wasn't like I told my son, look you're wrong. and it was all gravy. I was fortunate enough that NASA had just had a huge QA (which i actually found via HL) on 2012 type stuff. After we visited that my sons mind was changed.

But honestly he came at me like  for not believing that there was a giant planet on course with earth in the next 3 weeks.

Too much egos, it wasn't always about that, people are more interested in making a name for themselves and getting cool points. Also, message boards are not the only game in town, anymore. Between blogs, social networks, and 3G/4G networks, competition is stiff.

To add to this, I was never a dikk to anyone on the old site or this, besides Puerto Rican Gary before posting in HL. It's just the nature of the people in here that is combative.

I ask you guys this, to quote my man Common, "sometimes I take the L just to chill with the real world..." Do you guys not hang out with everyday working people? Everyone doesn't have these highly structured and researched views and it is in those situations where I've found myself most challenged to communicate in a way to make a point, but they also remind me of how the average guy on the street sees the world. They can only see the world in front of them.

I've had great convos with people in TLR, the Booth, etc., and so many of those guys don't post just because of HL's stigma. I've said this to people on here in PMs and directly, and even told them, shyt I even used to have good TLR threads moved here (but they said fukk HL and got mad so we moved them back). But you guys want this board to be your clique. I mean even Jutt, who does podcasts with @newarkhiphop could drop knowledge, but he doesn't post in here. Even in VVD's original post he is alluding to that clique shyt (perhaps unintentionally). The OGs and a couple youngns or whatever he said. If you only respect the opinion of certain people and only want to hear from certain people, eventually you'll only be arguing with the same people over and over.

Look at that recent Israel thread for example, you had people on here, HL regulars attacking me as being pro-Israel, when I was just trying to raise their side of the argument to balance out the discussion. If cats are coming at me like that, how do you think someone who doesn't approach issues the way most of HL does will respond?

Remember this, @LeyeT was the originally the most popular person on that HL podcast. And he wasn't always right either. It was just because he came off as a real person. That's really my last post on the subject, I can handle trolls and we'll get up on that, but there's some looking in the mirror that needs to be done. Other than that, why so @Serious?

yeah i think between me and you talking, this experience with my son and just some other things in general HL needs to get off that "we're smarter than you" tip and recognize that not everyone actually enjoys watching c-span :heh:

HL needs to rethink it's image.

Stop misinterpreting what I said. I could give a fukk about a clique. The OGs I referred to were people who posted in KTL and would include many people who I disagree with on most things. This clique nonsense is :duck: anyway. All the regulars argue with each other and some of them actively dislike each other. Me, twism, gundam, sly, Meta, TUH, Brown Pride, The Real, hhl4e, Techniec, and Zero are all the same clique who co-sign each other on everything? :rudy: There is no clique. Just a handful of long time regulars who argue with each other and call each other names.

Honestly I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about because you rarely even read the board and you're supposed to be the mod and you didn't read KTL much. Nobody wants a clique. People just want posters who can think critically and present logical arguments and not trolls, racists, and scientific illiterates. Gee, that's so much to ask for in a forum called Higher Learning.

You're just speaking in baseless generalities for the most part. Your boy newarkhiphop was rebutted pretty politely in that thread where he was talking that stupid AIDS shyt. Nobody called him names or anything. They just presented him with facts and logic. Did it have any effect? No. He just kept saying the same "lol at the white man saying aids came from a monkey" nonsense.

I get elitism among intellectuals, but most are well adjusted, mature and tolerant. Its an art more of these heads need to master. It wasn't always like this.

If you took all the trolls out of HL we would actually probably have great discussions. We actually have really intelligent posters here, we just get trolled too often (deliberate trolls or just people who are retarded in general so they might as well be trolls)

People are thrown into groups on here more than the other subfourms. There are more people in other subfourms, and the topics are more diverse.

In HL there are religious spammers. Those trolls, make it easy for others to group every religious poster up into one big group. The anti religion atheist are trolls as well- just check out the number of threads dissing Islam especially. Why are there multiple threads weekly dissing Islam?? And how does that contribute to HL?

Some of the most interesting threads get no response. And while some posters want to deny it, there are posters from KTL that care more about their e-rep and dissing posters than they care about actually debating on a topic.

Generalizations are made. Including the following: non-believer = demonic. Believer = hates science. Islamic = child rape lover and ignorant on all subjects known to man. Athiest = emo loser. Disagreeing with the populous about one subject = ignorant on all things. Popular poster on KTL = credibility. No responses to your thread = topic isn't interesting. Caucasian = devilish nature and no credibility. Pro-black = anti white militant. etc etc...

Let me just say this about the debate over the tenor of posting in this forum, or rather how people perceive it should be like:

When you click on The Coliseum, TLR, The Booth, The Arcadium, JBO and their respective subforums, there are always specific ways in which the posters communicate. Some more than others (Sports culture and the like), but the discussions all have a subtle thematic to them relating to the main topic of the content of the forum. With that in mind, I find it a bit much to attempt to see make a forum called Higher Learning, even on a board that guarantees that it's not going to be that academic at all, the forum to be totally understood by the lay person, as if we must absolutely and completely eliminate terminology and jargon from our posts just for them to understand.

It's the Higher Learning forum. The very name tells you about the nature of the discussions on here. It's where you go to find new tidbits about life, politics and philosophy that you may not know about, or want to discuss in a higher-than-casual fashion (Admittedly, not everyone is posting like me at all. I don't mind. And please don't start). The very nature of learning about new concepts is the ability to work through the language in which the concept is originally formulated in. You can only reduce it so much before losing the very nature of that concept in attempting to communicate it.

It just seems to me that, if you're trying to put everything in layperson terms, then you're defeating the purpose of a Higher Learning forum, which is to learn about new concepts, a part of which is the jargon, like it or not (there's also the ever present threat of anti-intellectualism inherent in such a statement, but that's another discussion). Let them work through it, and trust that the people who want to read the forum (education level be damned) will work through it in order to precisely understand the concepts, instead of just engaging in circumlocution and dumbing everything down for everyone. I find the latter more insulting to the layperson far more than the former.

I'm sorry but there wouldn't be so many negative islamic threads if the main perpetrators of everything that is wrong with HL weren't islamic themselves. There are a couple that are ok but the vast majority breathe ignorance and exhale the most garbage posts I've ever read in my ENTIRE life.

do you think calling the prophet a pedophile a couple dozen more times is going to suddenly convert them or something?

Nobody called him names or anything. They just presented him with facts and logic. Did it have any effect? No. He just kept saying the same "lol at the white man saying aids came from a monkey" nonsense.

:bert: No one said that you want a clique. I said you are unintentionally referencing what people believe. Perception does not necessarily equal reality. Do you know what people mean when they say clique here? They mean the same cast of characters, essentially you just restated what I said in different terms. shyt, I'm included in that clique when they make those references, so I don't get your issue. Do you think I agree with it fully? :childplease: You're smart enough to know what I meant, I don't know why you're being purposefully obtuse. Anyway, I already gave my two cents. But on one point, name one prominent thread on this board that I'm not apart of? Not reading repetitive stuff is not the equivalent to not reading the board.

This "troll epidemic" is overstated, how do you know that we haven't had discussion about Slaimon. and that ilk? I said last week mods and admins were looking into it. Racism? The majority of which comes from black posters and I get called a sell out when I deal with them? Has there every been an instance of racism that you reported that I did not address? These complaints are statistically overstated. The same people here now, were here during the election season and because the attention was so much on politics, no one cared or noticed. You're noticing now because they're able to stand out more on a stagnant board where people respond to them. When that immigration bill heats up, these guys will be a moot point. Most people like HL in some capacity, just not enough to post consistently and I think "we" are part of the problem, :manny:. Breathe. I'm not sitting here trying to argue about pet peeves.
