There really isn't anything to criticize atm. No real controversial issues. Most people here seem to be "liberal minded". The only thing really happening is the rethugs f*cking up hard, from fox news becoming irrelevant to members of congress refusing to compromise
We can't have any discussions on the "theory" of space, because it's mandatory for society to understand more about the ocean floor first

As for the HL "elite shyt" I told y'all about that months ago, a large segment of people feel that way. HL elite = HL regular who thinks he's smarter than everybody and shows it in his/her approach as to opposed to coming across as regular peoples.
To use myself as a proxy: I forget who it was I think it was NonyaBee or someone who came in here like a month before the election and HL people were about to kill her because she had a skewed view of Ron Paul. I and only like two other people talked to her like she was just regular peoples. That's not to say I'm not someone who does it too, I tend to respond to HL posters the way they write so it's like an on/off switch. But that's why people sometimes don't like to post in HL, it's the equivalent to how a Kendrick Lamar album connects with people while a more pretentious rap album won't.
I guess I wasn't clear in where I was going a couple of months ago when I was saying to make it so that more people want to post here. For perhaps no other reason than that people won't all be sick of each other.

It's what houston was trying to tell Lakers fans when that dude was spamming the thread yesterday. I guess it's like an unwritten rule, unless the guy is doing something inflammatory or trying to advertise something, that kind of leeway tends to be given.

Haha since when am I an "HL elite"? The only significant thing I've done is edify a few Fed/Bernanke conspiracy theorists and shared some Muslim piff.
Anyway, perhaps that's what Opie meant by "homeboy," that's not what I meant. It's basically analogous to saying a "trailer park" country music site. It's also not meant to be derogatory, just a general observation.

This isn't really a place for serious discussion. It's never getting better or approaching KTL in its heyday. A lot of the veteran posters don't really post as much anymore, which is understandable because we've all said the same stuff a bunch of times and have grown weary of rehashing the same debates with the same people.
But this place is a joke to be honest. It's had its moments. But there's a thread going on right now where you have posters arguing that AIDS isn't caused by HIV and it was created by gay white people and how come monkeys don't have AIDS.
One of the problems is that imbecilic bullshyt like the aforementioned AIDS nonsense is too often viewed at legit "higher learning" to ne debated by too many people instead of being dismissed and laughed out of the room like it would be in any robust intellectual environment. I totally understand why no one comes here and most people probably have a dim view of this place. It needs to made a subforum in TLR again.
Or maybe it's not much different than it was and me and most of the KTL OGs are just older and not as enthused about debate anymore.That could be it. It's a few youngins here who put in work too...Kool G Trap comes to mind.
Props to everyone who made KTL what it was, those who made the jump and those who didn't. We past our prime now though.

Both of these things are true and I mean no offense by this. Also HL regulars are why trolls get any traction, but I've explained that too many times.
As for KTL vs. HL, it's the same thing. I know because I used to lurk KTL before I even registered for. It had dry periods just like this after an election. It's just that everyone knows each other now. Go back to the first month of HL, I was posting up articles almost everyday, basically making education my niche, no one responded to them. TWISM posts up stuff, and it is read but no one responds to it. The point is, most participation is HL is passive. It gets a lot of views but few responses. Even less now that we have the college and careers sub-forum. KTL was like that too, it's just that posters were more distinguishable.
You also all make far too many assumptions about how mods and admins act.
When the next big thing comes around, people will be in HL again. It goes in cycles.
Like I said, it just could be my perspective changing over time. I remember when I was first lurking on sohh, KTL was dead and full of conspiracy nuts like that Kyoon guy and there was very little substantive conversation. Then it had a bit of a renaissance and there was some really thoughtful discussion infused with the usual sohh fukkery. Around then, a lot of posters were debunking irrational nonsense and it was marginalized in favor of healthy discussion.
But like I said there's a bunch of long time regulars who have went so many rounds with each other and already know everyone else's opinion on all the big issues so it's redundant at this point.
I've been past feeling like debunking bullshyt and prefer reading and engaging in constructive conversations like our podcast ones. But when you come here and see threads like your boy newarkhiphop and kingsmen going on and on about stupid AIDS conspiracy bullshyt and being utterly immune to logic and facts it kinda just drives home the point that this place doesn't live up to its namesake. I don't think there's anything we can do about that unless you start banning people for not being able to present arguments that are predicated on reason and facts which is a rabbit hole we probably don't want to go down because we don't want to start censoring. So it is what it is.
Regarding banning trolls, I don't have a strong view either way but I don't see why you can't ban trolls from HL just because people respond to them when there's a note under the forum heading that clearly says "no trolling." It would seem to me that you shouldn't mod HL in the same manner that you would say the Coliseum based on that. It's the same 3 or 4 people that always respond to the trolls anyway. All it takes is one troll and one responder to derail a whole thread, so how fair is that to the majority who doesn't troll or respond to trolls? Maybe if most people are telling you they want you to ban trolls it's something you should rethink.

As far as the bolded, I've never read a single kingsmen thread so I didn't even know what you guys were talking about. I don't know dude, maybe that's just an extension of my actual real life personality...which is basically "it's whatever." Like probably a good 70% of the time that I argue anything is on here. When people say off the wall shyt, and they're not one of my boys, I just don't engage them and move on like
That's why half the time the mods don't even know what you guys are talking about, we've tuned them out. As far as Slaimon goes, he didn't start off this bad, he's gotten worse, and that changes things. I mean, I deleted his last thread (today) like 4 posts in so I doubt any of you guys even knew it. I'll talk to that dude.

i am under the impression that many of the posters in HL lack basic literary understanding, barely even regard the idea of human compassion, and possess limited to non-existent critical thinking skills. 
it's like some of them have never read a book before.
i don't even waste my time. occasionally there is a mildly eyebrow-raising interesting thread that is worth checking here and there but most of the time it is not even worth a response. and i am not trying to laud myself as mentally superior or some sort of elitist brainiac but we still have a vast overwhelming majority of the people posting on the coli who hate and fear gays, hold onto detrimental and dangerous views on race, have extremely limited or wholly misogynistic views towards women, or simply don't want to try and lift themselves out of the pit of ignorance they have been trapped in by our media or internet discussion boards or youtube comments. the fact that people preach from the mountaintops regarding religious dogma ad nauseum or worship lowly foolish trolls in other subforums on here is sad and pretty pathetic. and i am no humorless stick in the mud either. i love clowning around and having a good time but the lack of productive discussion is something that will stick around unless those unwilling to re-examine their positions on numerous issues through critical thinking get a clue.
