What happened to Gen z and the younger Gen in music? The majority of the top music acts in every genre are in their 30s or they are pushing 30

They busy trying to create a 15 second viral meme of a sped up anime remix than focus on real songs.
This definitely plays a part in it

It just doesn’t seem like young people put effort into making music or take chances with their sound. Just copy whoever’s hot and put their own spin on it. Fwiw, it’s working for a lot of em since you can put your music directly on DSPs and get paid directly from that

Hip hop: Travis Scott 32, Drake 36, lil Durk 30, Gunna 30, Kendrick lamar 36, Lil Uzi 28, Nikki Minaj 50, Jcole 36, Kanye West 46, Tyler the Creator 32, Future 39, Metro boomin 29, Post Malone 29

R&B: Beyonce 41, Sza 33,

Country: Morgan Wallen 30, Luke Combs 32,

Pop: Taylor Swift 33, Selana Gomez 31, Miley Cyrus 30,

Latin: Bad Bunny 30, Karol G 32,

Afro beat: Burma Boy 32

Music used to be a young person game especially hip hop and pop but now most of the big acts are on the older side.

Is being a musician becoming an old head occupation?. Or are we moving away from the big crossover superstar and moving towards musical
acts with a smaller dedicated fanbase like nba youngboy?

Why is the music business failing to find new superstars?

Nikki Minaj is 50? :picard: Ewww

Edit: she 40. :beli:

FWIW I think the next generation probably going to be the re-emerging of DJs, sampling and remixes being big. Because that's 90% of what is hitting in their younger spaces these days. Spins on shyt that was already made in one way or another. Speeding up songs, slowing down songs, playing around with 90s RnB... Mostly because they ain't even listening to full songs anymore. Maybe a minute or two will hold attention, then it's on to the next.

Imagine tryna get them to sit down and listen to three verses, a hook and an outro.
Now imagine tryna get them to write three verses, a hook and an outro that are cohesive.

That said, some of these remixes be kinda fire :ehh:

Dont forget. Bobby brown could have taken the throne but he fell off, and Ginuwine didn't fully crossover into being a household name
Yeah a whole bunch of younger guys running the rap game was never the norm its just more of them are around because of SM and
Pac was 25 when he died. Biggie was 26 when he died. Snoop was young as hell when he was on 'The Chronic' and then when 'Doggystyle' came out.
That's 2 and include nas thats 3

Those acts have been out the longest and therefore have the largest fanbases that isn’t reflective of Gen Z’s listening habits

Gen Z’s superstars died XXXtentacion, Juice WRLD, and Pop Smoke

Go look at the Spotify streaming numbers of Polo G, A-Boogie wit da Hoodie, Rod Wave you’ll be shocked :manny:

As a millennial it’s a toss up between y’all and the boomers ngl

Boomers/Silent Generation were the GOAT entertainers/musicians(seriously, no one comes close to what they accomplished in film and music)
Gen X were good, but there was a fall off
The fall off continued with us(Millennials)
and Gen Z is just continuing the trend

All subjective of course and Gen Z listens to their own artists for the most part

Billie eillish is still in her early 20s
Ice spice is 23
Bad bunny is only just about to hit 30 next year
Lil yachty is 25
Jorja Smith is 26
You can also count Lil Uzi as well as they're 28. People who are born in 1995 are the starting point of Gen Z.
