Not suppose to go to college to just get a better job. Suppose to go to get more knowledge and make yourself a new job based on what you learn as well as sharing what you learn with others. If you're going just to get a better job, you're setting yourself up.

Think about this. Who's better off.

A man or woman who seeks knowledge, wisdom and understanding on his/her own and has a part time job(s) with plans for the future.

or

A man or woman who was essentially forced to go to college(because of outside influences or just no desire themselves to self educate)for knowledge, wisdom, understanding only to get a piece of paper to show off and in the mean time they are looking for work AND paying debt with no future plans other than "I need a job!"

Not saying that you shouldn't go to college of course but hot damn, know what and why you are attending in the 1st place. College ain't for everyone.

:shaq2: yea nikka that shyt sound good but keep it real. its a real small % of people who go to college for this...and those are usually academic types or people with money to go and learn what they want...not what they need to move ahead in life.:manny:

fair enough breh :yeshrug:

no, although i am mistaken for being mixed on occasion. freshman year for example, one of my closest buddies from miami asked which parent of mine was black..:russ:

i can grow a mean afro but often keep my hair buzzed low...one racist piece of shyt told me that i had 'n----- hair' in front of his sister and a girl i was digging out. slapped him in the face :yeshrug:

part italian/ part german jew..with all the swastikas i saw in slovenia, i suppose im at approximately the same disadvantage as an educated black man in italy, but thats impossible to tell really..i do have a serbian grandfather so thats a plus, i guess..

outside of that though, slovenia is perfect. so much land, fresh air/water...the alps, the adriatic, pretty great location in terms of versatility of travel...i have family in trieste only 90 minutes away or so and, of course, ridiculously good food. slovene cevapi :gladbron:

basketball hoops at nearly every house and courts everywhere, very little power structure because its such a new country, and little business diversity, which allows for many different possibilities if you have the proper connections. i helped build a music studio there, went to various commercial buildings for sale and negotiated in order to open a pizza/wing spot in the future, and am planning on applying to teach tennis over there too, though i understand there may not be much of a draw in europe for american tennis braintrust. if that doesn't work out, i may get a teaching cert and teach english there.

not to mention everything you said. smoked a foot and a half long joint at a public restaurant the first night i got there :jawalrus:

went to a huge paul van dyk rave/concert in ljub and the bytches there :gladbron:

its the only country with love in the middle of it for a reason breh

The EU rant was because of random posts I saw on here so wasn't solely directed at you :manny:

I do got some inside info on some of these posters though, funny what you can get from a CS class in berkeley and living in LA before that :youngsabo:

Yea, you seem to have had a good experience in Slovenia, love that.

brah brah, raves are :ooh: status... croatian, slovenian, and latvian bytches had me going all night!

Overall though, I prefer to work here since there's more opportunities money and career-wise. Also, I see a lot of countries branching out and offering job placements all over the world so preferably I would like to work for an American company and be shipped overseas. shyt is no better than having that American privilege in foreign countries. :win: status

Have you ever been to Italy? You know if your mom is from the north or south?

its not only the degree

its also mastering a field/industry

if you're a finance major and you can't find a job, I'd urge you to get some experience in healthcare! we're eating over here

My BBA is in Marketing, my MBA is in healthcare management. I chose to specialize in healthcare because it is what's popping right now and the foreseeable future. Marketing is my love, but a nikka had to eat as well so I went into health care. Also, at the end of the day, an MBA is still an MBA, in any industry. My day job is working in finance for my company and I teach healthcare online at night. As Bill Clinton said the other day. The old economy is gone, what we are experiencing isn't cyclical. Also, there are millions of jobs out there, but we don't have enough educated people for them.

A lot of people with degrees graduate with no real skills in their field. People need to do more to stick out from other candidates.

This is true, my MBA alone wasn't enough. I teach, so on a resume, it shows that I'm capable of leading. Things like that. I can educate. Why? Because I'm already paid to be an educator. You have to be proactive, not reactive.

Well the only other person in here talking about Europe is me so state your case.
You sound like a nationalist who got his feelings hurt.

This is something I was pondering on, but I wanted to have a serious discussion on it so I'm posting it here.

Unemployment rates, especially for minorities is at a high. However, at the same time, the number of college degrees held by minorities is also at a high.

I'm starting to think that because so many more people have undergraduate degrees that it devalues the degree. I remember when you could get a mid-level administrative or beginners management position with a bachelors degree. Now you're lucky if you can get an entry level position with a bachelors degree.

And then think about how many people never get to find work in their field. I have a friend with a bachelors degree in Finance who works at Starbucks.

I believe the problems is that there are more people with college degrees than there are jobs to accommodate them. People were told that if they went to school, got a good education, they would succeed.

Even with a masters degree, it is still hard to find employment at a respectable level. It appears that networking and experience should be valued more than education in order to succeed.

What's your take on this?

Because College does not teach you how to create jobs (be an entrepreneur) instead it teaches to work for someone else so when the economy is bad you a left begging for a job like everyone else..

but the thing is that economy doesn't need all those new economists, lawyers, graphists...now you DO need new plumbers, electricians and whatnot, but those jobs arent' "cool" jobs, and don't have the same status....

This is so true, even lawyers and accountants are having a hard time finding a good job.

Even though these science classes are affecting my health, I know I'll be straight as a civil engineer. They even shipping in engineers and programmers on H-1B visas. These kids need to lose that "I hate math" mentality or they gonna starve.

If he's in the right location AND a CPA, there's no reason for him to be out of work.

fukk just having a degree. GET BETTER GRADES.
That's the problem w/ some of the folks complaining. In a globalized world, 3.0 gpa isn't going to cut it anymore for most majors.

If were talking blacks then the main reason is the cuts in the public sector jobs. This has destroyed a lot of opportunities for educated younger black folks. Govt. has always been the biggest employer of blacks and about the only place you can get a "fair" shot (Which is one reason why republicans always tout privatization). Private corporations have always had a hidden quota on the amount of negros they will hire no matter how qualified. I've been on the other side of the interview table and have seen the dirtiness and racism that goes on.
