Naw, that means nothing...

But since Universal has a clause in their contract with YM that they get first dibs then yeah she would've sued the shyt out of them but just because they own Young Money means nothing.

For instance they have no faith in Jae Mills... that nikka could go sign with Def Jam & Universal Motown wouldn't give a fukk...

Funny part is if he would've waited he could've got what he wanted since Sylvia left Universal & is being sought out by Columbia, Epic & Island...

Thanks man. You actually sound like you know what your talking about.

I originally started this thread, because I was wondering if this was some kind of marketing tactic.

It does happen but Drake wasn't one of them... usually the "fake organic" artist hardly survives their freshman year... *cough* Asher Roth *cough*

Mainly this...but a slight clarification...Universal doesn't have first dibbs rights to Young Money acts, but actually full exclusive rights...Universal doesn't technically "own" YM as it's just an imprint of Cash Money, which is still wholly privately owned and has a distribution deal with Universal...strictly speaking, the Young Money imprint didn't even exist yet when Drake first linked it up with wayne...it was more of a crew thing and an idea and didn't really come into fruition on the actual business side of things until the months following C3 when Wayne re-upped with CM...

Drake's whole thing was, when it was time to sign official paperwork...he didn't necessarily want to be under the Universal system at all, but the only way he could he do what he felt like was the right thing out of loyalty to Wayne...set up a deal that made sure Wayne and his brand benefited financially off his career...was if he signed to YM/CM and be distributed by Universal... he thought he found a way around dealing with Slyvia Rhone completely by trying to go through Universal Republic instead of Universal Motown (the latter handled most of the urban acts, the former other genres)...but that's where Slyvia pulled rank...but like you said, that ended up being a mute point because she ended up exiting there and Univeral-Motown ended up dissolving...all Cash Money releases are through Universal Republic the past couple of years

Pretty much...

Plus I hope cats don't think Baby was just gonna let that nikka go eat with another crew after Wayne helped him get to that next level... :birdman:

I think cats misinterpret what actually happens when an artist is hustling. Drake was in a shytload of studios out in LA & ATL before he ever put out "So Far Gone." Hell... the dude Chase from Surf Club was the first nikka to bring Drake to Interscope & they turned him down. Trey Songz wanted him on Songbook but Drake felt they didn't have a machine built for a Rapper & didn't want to compete with Trey for an R&B spot.

It's a lot of grinding, studio jumping, handshakes, meetings & office fiascos that happen behind the scenes that people never know about when an artist is coming up. Drake was well known in the industry before anybody took a chance on him... the fact that he was fukking with J. Prince before Young Money should say a lot about dudes hustle... he didn't just start at the top.

Being on TV doesn't mean shyt either... you got the little black dude from "Lost" right now with a record deal over at Capitol but do you think anyone is gonna take dude serious unless he partners up with a Kanye status rapper?

Remember Astro? How quickly things change when your TV buzz is gone... :sadcam:

Dude been signed, wasnt that tape he did with DJ Smallz before So far gone had YM imprint on it or some shyt. Dude is a plant, not saying he isnt talented, but he definitely did not do it without a label backing him. 50 Did though :win:

It easy to pick on Drake for being a rich kid

But the thing that separates him from Diggy Simmons, Rich Hill, Chat Haze,

Is One drake is a hell of a song writer and the other is he earn his money on his own ....

Drake dad is a dope fiend and his mother a school teacher with lupus or some other degenerative diseases ..

Not exactly the black Bruce Wayne, people treat him like :yeshrug:

How much money could he had made supporting his mom as the fifth or sixth lead on a nickelodeon show :manny:

why was he screaming 'young money' at the end of 'best I ever had when he wasnt even signed to them... :childplease: .. dude is an industry plant, the unsigned shyt was a marketing plan to builld up hype.

Read the thread... nobody is denying he was with Young Money... people have different perception of "signed"...

He was with Young Money... but he didn't have a Major behind him just like Big Sean before signing to Def Jam in 2010 despite being on G.O.O.D. since 2007...
