Drake was not a plant... dude was doing songs with Trey Songz back in 2007... just wasn't his time yet...

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bALk7WdD4e8"]Drake feat. Trey Songz - Replacement Girl - YouTube[/ame]

Drake did not "come out of nowhere" nor was he an industry plant. nikkaz have had deals & mixtapes before & after him that didn't catch on... dude just happened to be a breath of fresh air when he came out. How many mixtapes that dropped were a bunch of nikkaz talking about street shyt? Drake come thru & got the women & the clubs... something most male rappers ever try to do & it worked plus he was a Hybrid Artist... dude could rap, was actually decent at it & could hold a note & his songs were catchy.

So Far Gone sounded like an album & was very well put together. nikkaz love to hate but the stars just aligned perfectly for him to blow the way he did...

it really doesn't matter cuz paris hilton, kim kardashian all got the same push but didn't go no where.

Ya he was successful but his blatent lying makes me wanna punch him in the face.

Bidding war to me was fake, he was always on young money. U a dumb N1gga if you think you can't pay a publicist to say whatever the hell they want on an article.

ya ppl liked his stuff. But ppl like a lotta stuff. the reason he made it is cuz of his push.

granted 1/5 artists don't succeed, like paris hilton, but at the end of the day, he didn't do it the way he wants you to believe.

which is why i don't like him.

that and the n1gga gay as f8ck to me.

I agree with sylvia rhome, this dude is wack it just ppl don't care bout being traditionally good at rap and having a traditional rap image. though by his actions u can tell his is DYING to do so.

Yup I remember when the replacement girl video dropped he was on the radio begging everyone in the city to call 106 and park and vote for the track. It only lasted that one day.

Drake is authentic but people naturally need something to hate on.

How the fukk did a mixtape rapper that appears on a kids soap opera show get his video to premire on 106npark before nikkas knew who he was or before he was supposedly not affiliated with a label?

JEW UNIT! :shaq:

Him being on a Canadian Series is the reason no label wanted to touch him due to "credibility" being such a huge factor when pushing a Rapper...

You have to be affiliated with an artist that currently has credibility to bypass that... which is why it wasn't until *AFTER* Wayne started fukking with him that any label was even interested.

Without Wayne's affiliation Drake was Diggy Simmons...

This industry plant thing is stupid. He had two good mixtapes out before So Far Gone was even thought of. People slowly caught on and liked it, yes including Wayne and other celebrities. If Wayne liked what he heard and saw that other people liked it too and saw the potential there, why wouldn't he latch onto it and try to make some money?

As far as "Replacement Girl", he was somewhat known from Degrassi and having Trey Songz on the song easily got it onto 106 and Park. The song didn't really didn't do that well anyway. If he wasn't a plant how come he didn't get huge until several years later? "So Far Gone" was just a good tape and people loved it. No amount of industry cosigns are going to mean anything if the people don't like the music. Its not that big of a stretch. He's been putting out music for years and slowly got bigger and bigger. "So Far Gone" was just the turning point, where he really took off.

What's funny is Kendrick Lamar actually had a deal with Interscope under the table 3 years ago & they pushed him on the low to keep his buzz credible & organic... but since cats like Kendrick they won't question it...

Drizzy is not a industry plant. But its obvious he was already down with Young Money when he dropped the tape. nikka is in all of waynes old ym videos. Production for the mixtape was handled by Drakes peoples. Wayne brought in the big names for the features. At the time Omarion and Llyod was with Young Money at the time so that explains that. Bun B hops on everybody shyt. And Trey and Drake have been cool for a min.

Yall nikkas been saying all the shyt I was going say. Although I do believe there are industry plants Drake is/was not one of them. Im surprised it was coming from nikkas on this board too. I remember when I used to lurk :hamster: way before So Far Gone came out, like '07 and yall nikkas (or whoever was on :hamster: at the time) would big up Drake. The thing with Drake is he had money and maybe a little connections (something alot of rappers should do beforehand anyways) before he really got into the shyt. Someway along the way he hooked up with Wayne and Wayne held him down. At the end of the day So Far Gone was just a great mixtape, Successful and You the Best were great songs that were fresh and sounded like nothing out around the time.
