Victor Wembanyama is playing away from the basket, and I am concerned.

I want to be clear, because it occured to me that this thread will likely be upped any time Wemby has a bad game.

I am not saying that I think Wemby is a bust.

I just wonder if his apparent willingness to play away from the basket is good for him and good for the Spurs.

How much of this is a conscious decision to develop that part of his game, and how much of this is Wemby being passive or bullied by defenders?

It is true that Wemby having the potential to score from anywhere is the key to his ceiling. So in that sense perhaps we have to accept these growing pains. But I wanted to ask the question anyway.
It's not all Wemby. The Spurs want him shooting and out on the perimeter

Let him play 4 because he can’t excel in the post? He did just fine last year

You have no point lol
nikka...they were ass last year, YOU have no point :dead:

They need to start becoming a competitive team at some point and the pathway to doing that is to put him at the 4. Like I said, minnesota didn't turn the corner until they did so with KAT

Except you think the NBA is irrelevant as a league, so why make such a redundant remark about nobody caring about Wemby, when you've already stated that nobody cares about the league, as a whole?

He has the 4th highest-selling jersey in the league, and yet here you are trying to paint a picture of him being "completely irrelevant".

Nobody is buying the trolling you're selling out your trunk.

I've never said the NBA is irrelevant..

The game ain’t even that physical nowadays, something that’s been a talking point about the league for awhile now but Wemby would struggle in the paint? And how many real big men will he actually see on any given night that would bully him down there?
Thank you. People keep talking about bullying and banging in the paint like we're talking about prison basketball. This is the NBA, post moves are a skill you work on...

They gonna need to learn fast what Minnesota didn't understand with KAT, and what teams also learned with Porzingis and make him a 4 and get a true dirty work 5. Don't assume he'll grow into a 5, it may never happen
Porzingis just won a ring at center.

It doesn't need to be 1994 levels of Sock Em Boppers in the paint. 95% of players in the paint are heavier and stronger with lower centers of gravity.

So what’s your solution going forward for him? Not being condescending, just curious. If he’s so skilled he should figure it out right? He can dunk without jumping, taller players throughout history have made a way to figure out getting a bucket at the rim when you are forced to via a defender outweighing you.

More or less this.
That athleticism and length is the key though. The jumper or a blow-by/wrap around is a pick your poison.

Think a Monstar Bosh.
Operating from the elbow as a Dirk/Bosh fusion with Reed Richards powers. He'll still take 3-5 3s a game because it's 2025.
