Is Victor shooting way to many 3's? Of course.
Why? Somebody has to.
Victor makes 1.5 threes a game. That's pretty low.
Branhim, Sochan, Castle, Barnes, Collins...all players in the game to game rotation...make less than that.
Think of all the dumbass 3's Victor takes, because he takes some exceptionally dumb ones. He takes those I aint played 2k in 3 years and i'm trying to get used to the shot stick 3's.
The Spurs are 18th in the nba for attempts. If you take away Victor attempts they are next to last, only Denver would shoot fewer.
But duckbutta shooting 3's should be someone else job let these others players do it.
Let Jeremy Sochan shoot 3's? He shoots his free throws one handed
Let Zach Collins shoot 3's? He spent most of last year not even shooting 30%
Let their top 5 pick point guard shoot 3's? Castle is literally shooting 12%. That's right 12 fukkING PERCENT from 3
. From your point guard who has the ball in his hand and is constantly in screening actions. 12%. I knew the knock on Castle was that he couldn't shoot but GAWD DAMN at 12 % from 3 on almost nothing but wide open attempts.
So yeah at face value it looks dumb for him to be shooting this many, but look at that roster and tell me who else is going to shoot and make them?
Also their is the way people have been playing him. Since he is surrounded by non shooters as soon as the dude makes any motion to the rim the double team comes. Any time he does enter the post a defender just abandons his man and waits for him to make any basketball move then doubles him.
Also, dude plays the most exhausting level of defense I have ever seen anyone play. He challenges everything at the rim, he challenges any shot he is near on the perimeter. He even challenges 3's. And these aren't put your hand up to make it look like you challenged the shot these are full blown jumped high and swatted the ball to try and really block it. On top of that any block he gets and doesn't grab he instantly turns to sprint down the court, where his teammates STILL don't get him the ball nearly enough in transition. Only so many times you can challenge everything, actually block half the shots you challenge to the point nobody is surprised when you get 7 blocks in a game, then turn and sprint to the front of the rim only to not even get the ball half the time.
Factor that into him playing basketball for what is going to be 2 straight years with no real break. He was drafted, trained for summer league, right into the preseason, right into the season, into the Olympics, right into training for the season, right into the season. I'm actually surprised he hasn't gotten hurt yet, although I do see him constantly limping and grabbing his hand multiple times a game, so he might be playing through an injury.
Devin coming back will help a lot. Although when he comes back he going to have his own problems cause the coaches going to be like "80% of all your shots need to be 3's" and he is the only legit shooter on the team so defenders will be playing real defense against him. Castle can't possibly shoot any worse than he is now so eventually he can be trusted to shoot a 3 in the flow of the offense to. Sochan being out will give him more room to work with in the paint because Sochan was doing exactly nothing but eating all the food Victor was feeding him...literally throwing him lobs from halfcourt. When Victor wasn't feeding him easy baskets Sochan was busy doing shyt like getting locked up by Kyrie
So yeah...when you got 3 players in Sochan, Castle, and Wesley who are playing real minutes that matter and combine to make exactly 1 3 per game...it's probably going to lead to Victor shooting a shyt ton of 3's himself cause it aint like these other bums are going to do it.
