His fight IQ was really dogshyt tonight.

dude is such a skilled striker but he got used to point fighting. And like this would be like trying to point fight wilder (no alex aint got demonic power like him but you get what i'm saying). He only got to be perfect for 10 seconds if you going to fight how izzy fought tonight.

He's certainly not a gimmick. Kickboxer got beat by better kickboxer. He almost had it too, but went to the dumb dumb well too many times with the cage shyt.

On the real, I would rather Izzy played it safe with the typical few hands and chopping tree technique, versus whatever the hell dude was doing tonight. That was so stupid for Izzy to try to take down Per's big ass and not expect to be wheezing and throwed off like that.

So you think Adesanya and his whole MMA career is a gimmick?
I'll answer, nonindont but izzy is a defensive fighter first, Alex being the obviously bigger man with more knockout power and a better chin was common sense. I didn't bet but a better man who watches izzy its pretty obvious. Once Alex closed the distance plus being overall tired in the later rounds its over. Izzy isn't a hard hitter.

I mean if he had a sub game that was probs the fight right there, but he doesn't so yeah IDK.

I like Izzy. you know how the web is gonna be, especially for someone with his type of personality. they are going to be on his neck.
Ok....but now of that changes the fact that you made it seem like he lost to a bum. Pereira could very well go on to run the division for a couple of years or he could fade away no of that changes the fact that Izzy is still going to be one of the best MW in UFC history. That's why your comment about him losing to a guy with only 4 UFC fights is ridiculous and makes no sense.

As a breh that doesn't follow MMA, I have a question for the kats that do:

So...does Izzy have a serviceable ground game [mainly in regards to submissions]? Apparently, he's lethal on his feet, but if he's scared to let shyt rip because of his opponent's power, shouldn't he have, idk, went for a submission when he had him tired in round 4?

If he's bad on the ground as well, then how the fukk was he champion? Is the rest of the division that bad?
He has elite level takedown defense, and the fact that he’s such a sniper makes guys hesitant to want to close that distance on him for takedowns.

It was moreso Izzy being in the UFC longer you would think he would be able to employ more MMA centric tools but it was mostly a kickboxing match except that takedown in round 2.

I didn't say Pereira was a bum. If I said something to seem like that mb. I don't think anyone who fights for a living is a bum since I see amateurs who would kill folks with their hands weekly IRL and these guys are leagues beyond them.

all I was saying that Alex was green mma wise and that internet is going to fry Izzy.

No ground game he wins usually by defensive fighting, and reach advantage. He's good at separating space from smaller guys and let smaller guys lounge at him to hit the counter but guys his size give him issues. He has no reach advantage over Alex, but I and Alex is obviously bigger in size and stronger. He basically needed to tag and run the whole fight to win. If he had a ground game maybe he can make Alex tap but he doesn't have that either.

I feel like Izzy style is somewhat gimmicky..he used a point system with great takedown defense but his striking skills ain’t elite. The UFC just has poor strikers all around, besides from the end of the 1st Izzy was clearly a step below Pereira..like soon as he didn’t have the reach advantage and or striking advantage it’s over.

Volk and Yan are real high level strikers they can get in there and let shots off against guys with longer reach. Izzy didn’t have nothing standing up for Pereira, except for the end of the 1st. Izzy was ineffective standing up at best. Commentators was dikkriding but I had it 2/2 coming into 5th. Izzy really wasn’t doing shyt on feet.

What grapplers? Lack of grapplers is why Izzy has survived lol

If Izzy can handle Pereira the way he did in Round 3 with his poor grappling, then I think Costa and Vettori could give Pereira problems, probably Whittaker too. Izzy has good defensive grappling and that's helped him out in his previous fights, but his offensive grappling isn't all that great, we saw it in this fight, Izzy didn't know how to get his hooks in when he had Pereira's back and had a single leg at one point and didn't know what to do with it.

I'm not saying the middleweight division is full of Makhachev's, but I think there are fighters who could take advantage of Pereira's weak ground game/grappling in a way that Izzy simply couldn't.

Truth be told the grappling and clinching also took alot of energy out Izzy too. He still had enough gas to win if he fought smart in the 5th but you could tell he was weary, that was the most tired I've seen him b/w rounds in the corner

Very important point. Izzy is not a seasoned grappler so grappling will tire him out as well. Might be why he stopped trying to take Alex down in the later rounds.

If you train then I don't understand why this is hard to understand. Izzy isn't a wrestler so even if he spent the whole camp training to take Pereira down, actually doing that and then being able to take advantage of that in a 5 round fight is a lot. Pereira was the bigger man so Izzy trying to take him down and keep him there was going to take a lot out of him. I'll need to rewatch the fight but I don't think trying to wrestle Pereira was the right move:yeshrug:
