According to Wikipedia Izzy had 6 boxing matches, 80 kickboxing matches, and 29 MMA fights that’s 115 total fights he has won 90.4 percent of his fights but he’s 35 a lot of damage on the body
People all to often NEVER look at someone's full body of work. They can't see further than they can reach. And that leads to "arguments" where some dudes can't admit they're wrong or have a slanted view. Think about how many times Izzy has been hit in the head, not just in fights either, training too.

The phrase "what have you done for me lately?" is a motherfukker! :mjcry:

Remember when Izzy versus Jon was considered a mega fight a few years back

:heh:

Izzy is done. Every fighter has a certain amount of punches/strikes they can absorb in a career and it’s different for every fighter. Izzy fought too frequently and never had great defense that’s recipe for disaster as you age.

Just look at how good Jon Jones has been for the past 15 years.

It just shows you how difficult it is to stay at the top. Izzy, Usman etc. These guys were amongst the best at their peaks, but it's hard to sustain that level of performance.

Jon Jones still hasn't been beaten, though people might have an argument for the Dominick Reyes fight.
Don’t think I’ll ever recover from the Usman head kick :mjcry:

The problem is he never had a great range distance when it came to his chin to begin with, but he just had good reaction time to move out the way he always fought with his chin up.

Now he's old and can't move out of the way. And years of mileage on his body has made him more susceptible to getting knocked out

Fight MVP and don't grapple brehs.

I don't understand how you could even have one thought in your mind that you can stand and strike with this guy. The recipe is to grapple, wrestle and win on points. He's hard to submit too cause he has above average submission defense.

Only Douglas Lima was able to figure this guy out on his feet. And that was prime Lima who hit like a tank. And he was getting tagged before that.

There's no sparring partner you can find that can make you sufficient enough to think you can do this on your feet with this guy.

Izzy had a good run and is a legend but yea it's been obvious for a bit that as cerebral of a fighter as we like to credit him as, he stayed finding himself in precarious situations that his lightning fast reflexes would bail him out of in the past.

He thinks he's still 30 :francis:

As soon as I saw his feet sliding back and were on the inner octagon line, I knew he was gonna get caught.

Look at all of his recent losses, he gets caught right in that area every fukking time. He's allergic to staying in the middle for some odd reason and he's shaved off years of his career because of it.

I think it's easy to say Izzy is washed or that these current guys aren't on the level of yesteryear. But NO ONE is holding belts for 5-7 years anymore. The game has changed from 08. Jones as a first time champion is FIFTEEN YEARS old at this point.
Islam is currently the longest reigning male champ since October 2022 with 4 total defenses (meanwhile Alex P had 3 defenses last year)

Zhang Weili has held the strawweight title since November of 2023
