She's 20 years old. Going there and explaining the intricacies of her native social politics isn't what she's there for, and he knows that full well. Just because Noah did it doesn't make it her responsibility.
22 year olds can solve third order linear differential equations but explaining what colored is, is too mentally tough :comeon:

it's not intricate, its simply mixed. It's not that hard. Why yall keep trying to tell us that we won't understand? Charlamagne didn't try to check or her blackness or nothing.

What's funny is she perfectly stated what she is in her tweet in one simple sentence later on. But people get in front of Black Americans and start ducking questions and calling us stupid because you can't just be proud of your heritage. Or she wants to be presented as ambiguous or something, which is what i think is going on here.

The irony in all this is (from what i know) Black people tried to accept her as "Black" and it was a lot of non-Black Americans getting mad telling people she wasn't "like us". People were adamant about her not being fully black and that "Black Americans focus on Black too much". :mjpls:

if she did it once, just repeat the answer. Not that hard.

maybe for you

maybe if Charlemagne, who wasnt asking in good faith to begin with, leaves it there if she answers there

she did not want to risk it, and maybe she didnt have that shyt memorized because again she might have typed it with help

she doesnt have to be some pro-black civil rights activist, she's literally a 22 year old foreigner. yall are being ridiculous

He asked her about being "coloured" which is a South African term, and he had Trevor Noah sit in that same spot and explain it to him. Charlamagne wanted her to clarify. And just because she answered it on some other random interview don't mean the Breakfast Club's audience heard the response. People answer repeat questions all the time in interviews. And all she has to do is explain to us "low IQ Americans" that it just means mixed. It's not that hard. All that extra shyt made it worse.

Why you keep saying "why didnt she answer again" instead of "why did Charlemagne ask this question again" if you know he already asked trevor noah this shyt? how many south americans is he gonna ask then? :mjtf:

again Charlamagne wasn't asking her to be pro-black, he asked her about being "coloured South African". It was a simple question.
Yeah, now you're just inventing whatever. Good luck with that.
yall keep telling us we too stupid to understand what mixed people are. Nice try, i'm not making that up. Move along.

I mean you dudes are literally acting ridiculous. Does this chick have some pro-black lyrics? Does she shout out civil rights activists? She is coming from a completely different culture and happens to be popular in the United States so she does shows and interviews here... why are we expecting her to understand the cultural context of America?

It would be nice but you dudes saying it SHOULD be the situation are bugging. And yall also acting like Charlemagne and Black Twitter are approaching this conversation in good faith when we ALL know that they are NOT

I'm pretty surprised yall are literally not willing or able to take a step back and view the situation from a distance

He asked because it was a big controversy and he wanted her to clarify on their platform. People answer repeat questions all the time. Yall keep implying Charlamagne wanted her to join the Black Panthers or something. What he asked was an extremely lightweight question for a celebrity.

And like I said, maybe shes not good at speaking about these shyts so she didnt want to. She would not be the first inarticulate celebrity

I said before when she addressed this it was via text, and she addressed this situation once again through text. She obviously does not have the confidence or capability to speak on it at the drop of a hat.

So what? Why does that make her a villain now?

1. You’re wrong. As someone who grew up in Michigan, we used to cross the border for fun. The border city Windsor probably has more in common with Detroit than it does with other parts of Ontario and Canada as a whole.

2. Drake is a 37 year old from Toronto with a father whom he spent summers with in Tennessee. Not only that he’s friends with some of the most prominent black people in the country. Without a doubt he should be more informed than a 22 year old from South Africa. To suggest otherwise is just ridiculous

3. Canada has an extensive history of black people escaping slavery. From southern Ontario all the way up to the Maritime provinces. Toronto itself has black churches dating back to 1826. This is well known information…They even have tv shows about this shyt.

I don’t know where you’re from, but it’s clear that your argument lacks nuance because of inexperience.

Drake understands American culture in a way Tyla never could.

Theres cultural similarities between Detroit and The Bay. Do you have alot of asians, whites, samoans who feel comfortable using the word nikka in Detroit:patrice:? Cultural similarities dont neccessarily speak to the nuance of racism, race relations, race awareness in a given place.

Also having history and knowing it,doesnt mean they can relate. Doesnt mean the black people in that environment discuss the history nearly as much as we do in America. White people can KNOW the history.

Plus by that logic Tyla and Africans in general should be ten times more well versed on slavery and white supremacy than anybody in the world. Since Africa is basically the beginning point of colonization.

You know the cultural similarity in between America and South Africa? WHITE SUPREMACY.

White Supremacy that from what I know far outweighs the history of white supremacy of Canada. By that alone I dont see how Drake should know more than her. Im not looking to condemn her or Drake. But yall have no business not being outraged that someone from where shes from doesnt have a decent knowledge base. You dont have to direct your anger towards her,but acknowledge her nation is either failing her. Those white supremacist are continuing to miseducate her and her people. Or shes protecting her "culture"/ caste system. Its your job to get to the bottom of it:respect:
