Without knowing the backstory The shooter knew he had the equalizer on him which is why he went to the house like that. The husband in white shirt was a much bigger dude and he came out with scissors but when his wife was grabbing his his arm, shirt, etc.. was a long enough distraction for him to take his eyes off the shooter which ended up costing him his life.
I think its a natural reaction but I've seen so many women do this. Rather they are the root cause of the argument or not but they always are grabbing on to their dudes trying to pull them away from a potential fight, at that point you just have to let it be what is going to be.
Then why would he be doing life if the DA doesn't see it that way?

It's actually more of the apartment door's fault for opening.
Did you forget there is a second person dead who was unarmed? Or that he started shooting with 2 unarmed females nearby?
He couldn't reach for his gun when the big dude was close but that arm grab was all the separation he needed.
Walking up to a downed person and shooting them in the head is murder.
I'm not interested in the rulebook or the court of law's definition.
We all know it's murder and he'll get life.
