Right. Folks act like you resurrected biggie and shot him again if they disagree with what you call a classic. Or that it has to be a top 20 album of all time or something.

I said BP3 as a personal classic and nikkas got upset for 3 pages.

But to be fair, in this sense, classic does tend to mean its status is mostly agreed upon.

:manny:

It had some hits but it was trash. Sorry we can’t help that bp3 was trash.

Vol. 2 is a classic iconic Jay album. It was huge and everywhere in ‘98. There’s nothing anyone can do about it.

If we’re going for ubiquitous, universally acclaimed, undisputedly iconic albums then that should be the thread title.

If it’s about personal classics then this thread will be cursed to eternal debate, and us eternally shytting on the trash heap that was BP3.

:manny:
It’s what we do here. We don’t like like Bp3.

I don't know if I'd call BP3 trash. 8/15 songs are good. It has like 4-5 songs that are garbage and the rest is mid. Nothing on the album is something that would scratch my Top 25 Jay Z songs. The only album of his that's worse is Kingdom Come. It might be 5-6 songs on that album that I still listen to. Ironically, "The Prelude" is a song that would probably make my list of Top 25 Jay Z songs.

Ye has College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808's & Heartbreaks and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Jay-Z has Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album.

Ye has more.

Late Registration is one of those albums that I still feel may be Kanye's best, but I don't think its a classic. College Dropout, Graduation, 808's, and to a lesser extent MBDTF were all game changers. College Dropout was like the '04 version of The Score and Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in the midst of the crunk wave, the emergence of trap, and the dominance of G-Unit. Graduation was when we first got a glimpse of the 2010's. It was the beginning of the sound that we would be hearing from Wale, B.o.B., Big Sean, Kid Cudi, and that whole class. 808's, of course was one of albums that heavily influenced Drake. MBDTF was like every Kanye album up that point all rolled in one. It influenced artists like Travis Scott.

It really depends on the definition of classic. Theres an "impact classic" that does not have 10/10 quality but crazy impact. GRODT would fit in that criteria for example. Then theres 10/10 "quality classics" that don't have the impact. ( The Roots - Undun would fit in that critera) Then there are classics that have both. Those are the rare gems. I don't even have to mention what those are. You know.

If we are going by the standard of both Jay would have 2 with RD and BP. Ye would have 2 with LR and MDTF. I love CD but I think it falls just short of a 10 album. So I say a tie

If you go by impact though. Ye's first 5 albums are classics. Thats hard for anybody to beat

never thought about it; but now that I do I think Ye actually does. There isn't a jay-z album that doesn't have a skippable track on it. Like a damn near cringe worthy skippable track.

full blown clowns in here questioning 4:44 and vol 2 as classics but in the same breath think 808s and yeezus are classics :dead:. both have 4 classics each though.

jay: RD, BP, TBA, AG
kanye, CD, LR, Grad, MBDTF

both also have a group classic with WTT
