He said it's a blood relative of cloverfield. never said it was the same universe, never said it was anything related to cloverfield except the name and just his idea for an anthology series

Thats fukking garbage and I hope people arent apologists about this. Why should we have to thoroughly research a movie and search for ntonline interviews in order to not be tricked by deceptive marketing? I read some interviews when this trailer first dropped and they STILL fooled me with it because JJ was tap dancing instead of directly stating "new universe, new mythology"

I liked the movie and I will continue to see any in the future that are part of this anthology, but I will never pay for one at the theater again.

Actually, this downgrades my enjoyment of the movie a bit because part of the reason I liked it was the big reveal at the end and how I thought it tied into the Cloverfield monster

Um it's not research. He said it in the press. I could go to Entertainment Weekly, which isn't the most obscure site at all, and find an interview with JJ talking about it. Or any entertainment website that covers this stuff and he's been saying it since January. He said it's not a sequel. He said there's a monster but not the same monster. He said he's got an idea for another movie under the Cloverfield branding. What more does he need to say for someone to understand that it's not a direct sequel to that movie other than him saying "It's not a direct sequel"? In fact, when the trailer for this dropped in January, I made sure every cat on here understood that he was saying it's not a sequel because he was talking about it constantly. So to me, if someone missed that, that's on them. It's the same thing Carpenter said with Halloween 3, that Michael Myers isn't in this movie yet people went in to it thinking Michael Myers was in it. Who's fault is that?

1) Take blacklist script

2) Change mailbox to read "10 Cloverfield"

3) Profit

4) Enlist apologists to drive the narrative that everything was just fine with the way it was marketed, and even go so far as to blame the viewer for not doing enough research before seeing a film :palm:

You call it that, I call it logic. If I tell you multiple times what something is and something isn't and you still believe what you want to believe, that's on you

So you decide what is and what isn't, huh? Too bad you're already caught lying pretending this shyt isn't ass.:jbhmm:

If I had any idea what you're babbling about this time or what part of your ass your head is up this time, I'd respond but seeing as how I don't know and have no clue I'll just say a typical: Okay breh, glad that made you feel good

The movie mos def was a money grab...the fact that Cloverfield was so prominent in the marketing.

I can just imagine those Executive meetings......

Even the intro started with "Cloverfield"...then they added the rest of the words..:russ:

Ill be interested to see what the cinemascore is on this.

I don't think people will be as scorned as they were with The Witch. Marketing made it look intense and it was a slow burn indie arthouse joint. Which this was too except for the last 10 min.

But im the opposite of you. After sleeping on it it still hurts the movie IMO.

Like i was telling @HHR though. We probably wouldn't have seen it had it been called Valencia or The Cellar as planned.

if it ended when she took off the mask and then sees the spaceship i woulda given it a 9 instead of an 8

This might kick off a whole new trend of marketing indie flicks :patrice:

i had no interest in re-watching cloverfield..the first viewing at the movies was cool but nothing special..
am i missing out on this film?

It has nothing to do with Cloverfield...it was just clever marketing to get buzz on the film

Its only relation to "Cloverfield" is that in both films involve characters dealing with an "attack"
