Do you need AAU to play college ball or can you get recruited off just high school ball? What’s the likelihood of being a walk on without AAU?
I'd argue that if you didn't play AAU as a kid you likely aren't as seasoned as kids who did and they likely have more skills than you even if you have the raw talent.

You also know less coaches and have less connections than AAU kids. It's a harder road.

You'll be more likely to land at some mid major than a prestiged school that's easier to get drafted from, if you get offers at all.

No matter what school it is tho, it's ridiculously tough to be a walk on at a college in any sport, because there's guys who are on scholarships that will be immediately prioritized over you, even if you are better, a lot of politics involved

Embiid got a make a wish MVP.

I don't know what the future holds but he'll probably go down as the least deserving MVP ever.

True but -
It was between him.and another foreigner.
Doesn't help Tatum's case

Bro you just cherry picked one playoff series.
Plus Embid has an MVP, Tatum doesn't.

A Canadian and Serbian just won the American NBA finals. Pls stop
:gucci: Can you not read?

So Tatum has beaten Embiid in the Playoffs three times (outplaying him each time)

:gucci:I can't tell if you're trolling, or just shockingly stupid.
Okay. you just cherry picked one *set of playoff series

Where you to stupid to understand the underlying concept?

:mjlol: So I "cherry picked" every single time they've played against each other in the Playoffs. That is your argument? Yiiiiikes.

Embiid has never made it past the second round. Tatum has only been eliminated before the conference finals twice in his career.

Where you to stupid to understand the underlying concept?

:russ: You might want to get your basic grammar together before you call anyone "to stupid".

America is laughably behind in everything. Our education our infrastructure our health care. The British took over acting. Foreign directors win best difector. The last five MVPs are foreigners. Our women are trash

Blame the entitlement factor as well as getting caught up in your own hype for too many decades.

Americans can't compete with guys going pro at 16 (Luka)

Aside from the summer runs camps etc. Our best players only get to play against there counterparts
Basketball is turning into soccer.

It's not that we don't have talent. It's that Europeans are developing hoopers the way they develop soccer players. Pluck them early and get them coached up with professional level training. By the time they are teenagers, they can play the game like experienced NBA pros. The only thing lacking is physical maturity which comes with time....think of the academy system in soccer.

American soccer is JUST NOW starting to figure it out and it took them 50+ years to do that.

Basketball is sooooo far away from that model in the United States. It went from a hood sport to a middle class sport but now it's verging on being a country club sport since so many of the guys that make it already have connections in the league.

They'll have to start identifying talent early on and getting the young bruhs coached up with an academy system. No more AAU and high school ball. No waiting until you're 15/16/17. They gotta get the kids at like 10/11/12 and have them get elite education and then professional level hoops training early on.

American parents aren't going to want to do that with kids that young but if Lil Jr. has Michael Jordan potential, that's what it's gonna take to get into the league. These Euros wanna dominate. We can't take over soccer but they damn sure will try to take over basketball.

This won't happen in football because they don’t have quarterbacks or dudes with an athletic profile suitable for football unless they're already playing rugby.

Bump. Alperun Sengun a mid 1st round pick is the best player on team with 4 highly touted McDonald’s all American American prospects his age :francis:

It's kinda sad to see because Jalen Green and them all have more physical tools than him, he is just more skilled

You can teach skills, Athleticism you can't

Truth

My son plays basketball for his U11 Elite 1 club and I'm seeing a HUGE difference from when I was growing up.

The days of just hooping and getting noticed in High School are over

Not training on skill relentlessly and relying on athleitsm are over

Not going hard until 15 or 16 is OVER

My boy who runs the program my son plays for is in the process of starting a Euro style basketball academy to serve the areas ELITE players

He doing this because we keep losing our best to other prep schools around North America.

The whole focus of the school will be basketball after their core morning classes ( math, English ect)
