Americans can't compete with guys going pro at 16 (Luka)
Aside from the summer runs camps etc. Our best players only get to play against there counterparts
Basketball is turning into soccer.
It's not that we don't have talent. It's that Europeans are developing hoopers the way they develop soccer players. Pluck them early and get them coached up with professional level training. By the time they are teenagers, they can play the game like experienced NBA pros. The only thing lacking is physical maturity which comes with time....think of the academy system in soccer.
American soccer is JUST NOW starting to figure it out and it took them 50+ years to do that.
Basketball is sooooo far away from that model in the United States. It went from a hood sport to a middle class sport but now it's verging on being a country club sport since so many of the guys that make it already have connections in the league.
They'll have to start identifying talent early on and getting the young bruhs coached up with an academy system. No more AAU and high school ball. No waiting until you're 15/16/17. They gotta get the kids at like 10/11/12 and have them get elite education and then professional level hoops training early on.
American parents aren't going to want to do that with kids that young but if Lil Jr. has Michael Jordan potential, that's what it's gonna take to get into the league. These Euros wanna dominate. We can't take over soccer but they damn sure will try to take over basketball.
This won't happen in football because they don’t have quarterbacks or dudes with an athletic profile suitable for football unless they're already playing rugby.
