Still getting a feel for it. I think it's probably something of an overreach, but Weekdn has always been an ambitious artist, he has never really stayed the same, like most of the greats, he reaches for something new everytime, and it doesn't always work.
Dawn FM was a very easy to listen to album. This feels like watching a Paul Thomas Anderson movie or some shyt. Like There Will be Blood. If you let let it play in a party/chill scene, it's perfect. But in my AirPods, I have only really gone to two tracks.
This strikes me as kinda inaccessible, too grandiose, melodramatic, distanced from the listener. Jay and Nas were the same, in the sense they made work that was challenging for the fan, and wasn't always what we wanted, or even that good.
Like I was saying in my first post, his music isn't the forefront of the youth anymore. Most of his fans are close to my age. He never has played it safe, but he doesn't set the trends anymore.
