My name is short for Versatile, so Weeknd switching his sound up around Starboy and leaning into pop never bothered me. I appreciate both eras because the quality never dipped. Just comes down to what you prefer more sonically.
In terms of urban pop, he's the closest we'll get to MJ IMO. In terms of tone and sound, he's like if MJ's black child got kicked out of the house and grew up around scumbags
