I always used to wonder why some blacks from the oklahoma area looked like some people i seen in north carolina. It may not be because of them all being geechie and native american mixed but i think that area had a lot of n.a. and african mixing going on. They still look black but they have features that look like the pictures of old native americans. They have the look of snoop dogg or a black asian mixed person as far as the eyes, and high cheek bones. They look like south africans such as mandela.
I get what you mean.

A lot also eat like the geechie but that could be because its coastal land but my mother told me directly her cousins are geechie. She then described how they talked, and said sometimes she didnt know what they were saying when they were younger. Now, that im older i can hear a little of that west indian like accent in the background of a heavy southern accent when they speak. Props on the thread.

Thanks

No. But i can try and do research. Also I have "ancestry" in North Carolina on my maternal side, although I was born in NY. There are Geechie's in N.C?
They dont have a community where everyone lives together like the one in s.c. but they are there. Just mixed in with nongeechies. Thats why I think more resesrch needs be done on the places they went. Im just like you. Mom is from n.c. but pops from nyc, as well as myself.

Actually my mother was born in NC, but my grandparents were born in N.C, All my family on my mothers side can trace their roots back to N.C. I still have family reunions in N.C. and family in the state. My family on my mothers side is very huge, though a lot migrated to NY.

Also do you agree with the man in the video?

What part? We might be cousins!

Yeah, I agree because a child that knows his people may be struggling now, but fought for change, and got it, will be able to walk in this world with his head up high. No matter the bullshyt he/she encounters, they will see it for what it is. Ultimately they will win the fight in their own lives.

Wilson, N.C.

Funny thing is here in NYC, I met a girl that I thought was banging when I was 14; I found out that she was my cousin.:merchant::damn:

The thing is after slavery, especially in the south, black parents had a lot of children(I mean a lot) and those children had kids and thus there's a lot of cousins.

Agreed.

@KidStranglehold She also said she knew a lot of geechies growing up because they talked funny. She said she thinks they came for jobs because of the Atlantic railroad, and when the company moved, a lot of people moved to Jacksonville,Florida but she said some stayed.

I just googled to find out more about the company, and it makes sense, because the Atlantic Coast line railways went through charleston,s.c. so it would make sense that some of the geechies would migrate out to other places for jobs.

I think I heard of the Atlantic railroad from somewhere.

The way she described it, and from what I read, the company was big time. She said my grandmother went to Jacksonville to work for the people who owned the company as a maid, but left after a month. I guess she didn't like it down there, and wanted to be with her family in her hometown.
