Connecting the dots yet again:

Francisco Menendez

Francisco Menendez was a free black military leader serving the Spanish Crown in 18th century St. Augustine, Florida. He is first traceable as a slave in South Carolina who, like many of his contemporaries, escaped to St. Augustine, Florida. In Florida he was granted his freedom as a subject to the King of Spain and was appointed the head of the black militia based at Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose. From this base Menendez led several raids on South Carolina.
In 1740, the British army marched into Florida and overran Fort Mose but days later Spanish and Fort Mose militia members defeated the British and prevented further invasion. Fort Mose was destroyed during this bloody battle.
Menendez took to the seas on a Spanish ship to raid English vessels. During this time he was captured by the English and sold into slavery. He was then ransomed and returned to Florida. After his return to Florida he was asked to rebuild Fort Mose. The community remained until the British took control of Florida in 1763 and Menendez evacuated with the Fort Mose community to Cuba. There he established a similar community called St. Augustine of the New Florida.
Fort Mose, of which Menendez was the leader, is now recognized as a National Historic Landmark, and the site is owned by the Florida Park Service. The Fort Mose Historical Society has worked since 1995 to make the site accessible to the public and widely known as the first legally sanctioned free community of ex-slaves, and the original focal point of the first Underground Railroad.

Notice how most of the escaped slaves to Florida always appear to have come from South Carolina and Georgia? Gullahs. Which yet again proves that this was one big continuation event and that the guy in the video in the OP is not talking out of his ass but knows what he is saying.

Official documented quote from General Thomas Jeusp to the Acting Secretary of War Benjamin Butler. -(Volusia), Flordia December 9, 1836

"If I should not succeed in dislodging Powell [Osceola], I can on returning to this place, strike Micanopy, Philip, and Cooper, who are about a day's march from each other, each with from one hundred and twenty to two hundred Indian and negro warriors -- the latter, perhaps, the more numerous. My object will be to strike them in succession, and prevent them from congregating"

House Documents, Otherwise Publ. as Executive Documents: 13th Congress, 2d ... - United States. Congress. House - Google Books

"The negroes, from the commencement of the Florida war, have, for their numbers, been the most formidable foe, more blood-thirsty, active, and revengeful, than the Indian .... For them to surrender would be servitude to the whites; but to retain an open warfare, secured to them plunder, liberty, and importance." -- Lieutenant John T. Sprague

I don't know about DNA studies on the Gullah But they are most definitely African Americans. They're just African Americans who retained their African culture but you have to ask how?

good questions..:lupe:

maybe culture was most important..

Thanks. But I;m just speculating on how the Gullah retained their African culture. But IMO War/Resistant seems to be more likely.

Another group in South Carolina that retained their African culture.

Yet many people have this idea that AA's are the most Europeanized out of the diaspora.
