locast is an app that stream local channels in select cities. FCC saids you can re-transmit broadcast signals if you're a non-profit. this guy re-transmitted to the internet. theres more to the story, since the initial funding for locast came from cable companies who are constantly negotiating with local broadcasters to carry their channels since they're always raising the rates on them. lcoal boradcasters like nbc,cbs etc have are currently suing locast since if it gets bigger they'll lose big time on revenue from the cable companies. cable companies advertise locast to their customers where local channels are blacked out.
There was another version of this years ago that got shutdown. Completely useless in 2019, so much so that I thought this was a thread bumped up from 2010.
