From 1999 on with the Rock as the Headliner, WWE became a publicly traded company, started a movie division, started a cable channel, and absorbed all the competition WCW,ECW,etc...

ehh.

that attitude era was a beneficiary of the boom period that was started by WCW, with guess-who as the main attraction.

and the rock wasn't even the top dog of the attitude era when it blew initially.

Flopped big...which already entails u don't have a clue of the era and actuality of Hogan's worth. Rock is bigger than Austin too..it was Rock vs Hogan..Rock vs Lesnar was the goal with Austin being the lead in...it was Rock vs Goldberg. Basically the Rock kicked Austin out of the top spot. He returns for Summerslam 01 and his WCW title match main events..not Austin/Angle. He returns and it's his rematch with Hogan over the Austin return at No Way Out. Stop the silly perception that Austin was #1. Austin started as #1 and was never #1 again after the Rock broke records in 2000.

hey dumbass. IM AGREEING WITH YOU about the rock being bigger than Austin.

and I didn't know that "no holds barred" flopped, because I'm not into Hollywood and knowing what movies sold what.

Did you read the title, We not talking about the last 10 year's.

The Rock is now bigger than Hulk Hoegan ever was!

That's what we discussing

And Rock is nowhere the level, until 33 Million sit they Asses down and see him wrestle then we can talk.

It took rock 10 years to get this huge when Hulk ruled from 83-88

I agree that Hogan was the bigger wrestling star.

but do you agree that the rock is the overall bigger name/celebrity?

my bad if this has already been covered.

Bruh the 33 Million viewers is because of the phenomena of Hulkamania. WWWF/WWF, NWA, AWA, Mid Atlantic, Stampede, CWF was still in the territory era and wrestling was still territorial with die hard fans deeply emotionally attached to their part of the wrestling map. Those numbers was unheard of.

It was because of Hulk Hogan crossing over and the hype and excitement and this phenomenon called Hulkamania that was running wild that drew 33 Million viewers it was wrestling fan's and non wrestling fan's that wanted to see this Man who taking the country by storm because that's how Popular Hogan was
Cool story bro.

This doesn't change anything that I said. Hogan in wrestling terms was huge in a more invested era capable of pulling 33 million viewers. Blah blah. The Attitude era was huge people say it's a bigger time whatever. There's not 33 million people tuning in to anything for wrestling at that time. I know that.

There's still an argument for overall success due to the many different factors and scenarios

Yeah I was and yes, Hogan was a house hold name and a big star... putting him in the same category as Michael Jackson is laughable.... he was probably as big as the the noid, balki from perfect strangers and max headroom.... no way was he near mj or anybody like that

Clearly MJ was on a stratosphere of his own but the people I named came to embody American values & attitude. Hogan was an American export without a doubt.

Rock is the 9th most followed person on Instagram with nearly 90 million followers, that's ahead of the some of the biggest names on the planet.

Hogan has like 300k :skip:

It sounds nice....Wrestling wasn't popular like that in the 60's, 70's or the early 80's It was look at as a freak show, it was laughed at, fan's was looked at the outcasts and weirdos, it was for poor people, the fukk you talking about.

You think people didn't have lives in the early 80's, you think people didn't have to go to church Sunday Morning, you think kids wasn't staying up late playing Atari or having sleep overs, you think teenagers wasn't cruising on Saturday nights or at the roller rink, you think adults wasn't at clubs in the clubbing ass early 80's, you think people wasn't going to drive in's, you think people wasn't working at night.

What the fukk you mean?

For me in terms of overall popularity its The Rock>>>Stone Cold>>>Hogan>>>Cena>>>Brock

Stone Cold circa '98 and '99 was bigger than any other wrestler in history imo but once the 00s rolled around, The Rock was king and never looked back.

I think the general consensus is Austin was the biggest active wrestler aand Rock is the biggest household name because of his acting career.
