People don't need to go to the mall no more. You can download music online, buy clothes online, talk to your friends via text/cell, holler at females online etc. When I was growing up, you needed to go to the mall, period. There was no online shopping. I remember when I first started copping exclusive New Era fitteds online in the early 2000's in late high school and when I would tell folks "I copped this hat from online" dudes looked at me like
because online shopping was unheard of. Back in the 90's, you had to go to the mall to buy your fresh Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, Avirex leather, Phat Farm sweater, Maurice Malone jeans and Air Force 1's. You went to Sam Goody and begged your mom to buy you the
Chronic or
Doggystyle and she looked the song titles on the tape or CD and then looked at the parental advisory sticker and said "hell no"
. And back in the 90's, whatever CD or tape you got from the mall was worth every penny because it was such a classic era for music
. All of that magic of the mall is gone.
But the economy hasn't been the same since 2008. People have learned to be more frugal. Who the hell wants to pay $100+ for a regular ass Polo shirt from Macy's that's probably already been worn every other day for a month and returned?
Macy's will accept returns for clothes you've worn hella times just as long as you have a receipt.
I see the thirft stores more packed than the malls these days.
And it's for a good reason. I come up at the thrift store like no one's business. Just last winter, came out of the thrift store with a Ralph Lauren Purple Label leather jacket for $30 when it retails for $2600+, brand new Coogi sweater with Sak's Fifth Ave tags still attached for $9, the same Schott leather A2 jacket in pretty much brand new condition that's on the website for $15 when it retails for $650 online, slightly worn legit Black Cement Jordan 3's for $20. The mall is only good for buying brand new kicks and fitted hats in my opinion. And even the shoe game is pretty much dead because classic kicks like the Jordan 3 true blue's and Royal Foams sat on shelves for the first time in many years. Most everything else in the mall is extra regular and not fresh at all.
