I think he's been dead For a minute. Since Ford was ahead of Delos R&D tech wise it's possible he perfected consciousness transfer while they were still working on it with Jim Delos. Quite possible Ford had him killed and had host William tell the tech to stop the research on #149. That would give a lot of weight to Ford saying "The game begins where you end".

Delos didn't have access to any of ford's source code to my knowledge, didn't they have to develop their own which is why it was so buggy?

Ehh. Idk about that. Every episode is good with Westworld. It's just when its more action people think its better. Then the people who like to analyze think the slower paced episodes are better.

I see this pattern in a lot tv shows through the years so its not just Westworld imo.
