Did Covid slow down the excitement for Hickman's x-men run or were things losing steam before the hiatus? Or are you still as excited?

Is it too early to give it your mid season/quarterly grade?

Letter grade for each series and for the overall Hickman era to date
I was loosing interest already but covid really did a number on Marvel's stuff. I was really enjoying the previous Uncanny X-Men run before Powers of X/House of X popped off.

If Marvel weren't run by cacs and kept it "Coates" (:troll:) about mutants and the x-men, then we'd see far more depictions of sexism, racism, and colorism within mutants right? In other words, I don't mean that tired bullshyt about how to deal with humans. Nah, I'm talkin that too close to home metaphoric joe crack real life shyt

i.e. that uncanny x-men issue a year or two ago where a revived cyclops is lecturing captain america about how (paraphrasing) "people like me (cyclops) don't get equal treatment that people like you (Steve) do", i'm sitting back amazed at these two fictional cacs playing it dumb for cac readers with that bullshyt.

Realistically, Cyclops would absolutely get equal or closer treatment to Cap, Johnny Storm, Reed, Danny Rand, etc..

Bishop tho.. they'd shoot that nig- mutie dead on site, just like they would Dr. Jericho Drum.

Plus male mutants would be sexist towards female ones (#GMB) and these white female mutants Karens would be 2-faced towards black female mutants and sounding the horns for sentinals talkin bout Jacoby with the power to talk to fish was threatening my life at the duck pond!

Worst of all, the closer a mutant is to looking like a regular white person (light skinned with the "good hair"), the more acceptable and glorified that mutant would be by America.

Whereas the new jim crow would be

  1. latino/black mutants (same ol shyt.. until they reveal powers)
  2. humanoid blue, red, and other rainbow colored mutants (not allowed in stores or restrooms, always followed)
  3. all animal themed mutants (shot on sight)

I've been losing a lot of interest in comics in general since the pandemic hit, but the X-books in particular have definitely lost a ton of momentum. The only thing keeping a lot of people reading was, "Well they're not that great right now, but Hickman has a two-year plan and it'll all come together later." Since they've been on hiatus for so long the habit of buying them every week is broken, and they haven't been that intriguing for people to jump right back into them, like say Batman with the Joker War arc.

That said, none of this matters because as soon as the books come out regularly again, they'll all be in the top ten for the week.

A book that really lost a lot of steam tho? Immortal Hulk. This time last year, it was outselling Batman, but before the pandemic hit it was barely making the top 30. Issue 33 made top ten, but that may have been a boost because it was an anniversary issue (legacy #750).

That's very true.

Also true. In fact, Marvel announced that Ewing is ending the run at #50. Which is cool because that means dude is actually working towards an ending.

In all fairness Marvel basically shut things down as far as releasing books during this pandemic.
There's a few sprinklings of comics that they put out every week but we've gotten maybe 2 x-books during this pandemic.
I personally miss it, weekly comic book reading isn't the same without my Marvel fix.

Hickman's runs have a history of ending weird cause marvel got involved. They cut his SHIELD, Secret Warriors and Avengers/New Avengers runs short by some issues and forced him to crunch storylines IIRC...

DC Brings Back One of Its Weirdest Villains Ever

Spoilers below for the 2 people that may actually read Catwoman

We're a few years into the DC Rebirth relaunch, which has married together some parts of the DC Comics continuity in surprising ways. Quite a lot of characters have been recontextualized for the modern era over the past few years, or simply plucked back out of the more obscure parts of the canon. The latest issue of Catwoman definitely dealt with the later option, reintroducing one of the most infamous and baffling supervillains that DC has ever had -- Snowflame, the cocaine-powered foe who made one memorable appearance in 1988's New Guardians #2. While his return was already hinted at in Catwoman #23's solicitation, fans might not have necessarily expected how he would make his modern-day debut. Spoilers for Catwoman #23 below! Only look if you want to know!

The issue sees Selina traveling to Isla Nevada, a tropical island that is set to host a high-profile auction gala in recent days. Selina soon crosses paths with the proprietor of that gala -- Snowflame, who has offered to drive her to her lodging. It's clear that Selina and Snowflame (whose real name, apparently, is Stefan) have interacted with each other in the past, even though Selina jokes that it's been "a few decades" since they've met -- or he's updated his wardrobe.

As they drive to the villa, Selina addresses how he faked his death all those years ago, and they proceed to talk about the Kisin legend that has begun to take over the island. Throughout it all, Snowflame's penchant for cocaine comes up a handful of times, including him even offering to "get the party started" with Selina beforehand.

Selina then goes to the gala, where Snowflame's auction - which includes water from the Lazarus pit, a decoy White Lantern ring, Codpiece's cannon, and a list of intel collected on criminals. He then is abruptly escorted to safety partway through the auction, leaving his return a little unclear.

Snowflame first made his comics debut in New Guardians #2, and was pitted against the team when they fought him in Columbia. As his name would suggest, he gained superhuman speed, strength, immunity, and pyrokinesis from snorting cocaine, something that created an interesting conflict across the issue. By the issue's end, Snowflame appeared to die in an explosion, but he has since lived on in comics infamy, spawning webcomics, video tributes, and countless other tributes.

To an extent, Snowflame's ridiculous single appearance has become a bit of a running joke among some comics fans, something that his Miami Vice-like attitude in the modern-day certainly plays up to a tee. While the rest of Catwoman #23 might earn a mixed response from readers (especially the introduction of Tambra Quartz, a social-media-savvy antagonist with a "cult" of followers who could be interpreted as a response to some of the controversies that have surrounded the issue's writers in recent years), at least the issue officially ushers Snowflame into the modern era. Let's just hope it doesn't take another few decades to see him appear in comics again.

What do you think of Snowflame's modern-day debut in Catwoman #23? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

Behind You
I know people's mileage on Tom King varies in here but I am all in on this book when it comes out in October:

Ec8Q-CbUEAAWQq4

This October, DC will present Rorschach, a new 12-issue maxiseries from Tom King (Mister Miracle, Batman) and Jorge Fornés (Batman). Here’s the tease:

It’s been 35 years since Ozymandias was exposed for dropping a giant telepathic squid on New York City, killing thousands and ending the public’s trust in heroes once and for all. The Minutemen are gone; only their memory lives on. Especially the infamy of Rorschach, who has become a cultural icon since Dr. Manhattan turned him to dust.

So what does it mean when Rorschach reappears as part of a pair of assassins trying to kill the first candidate to oppose President Robert Redford in decades? Follow one determined detective as he walks backward in time, uncovering the identities and motives of the would-be killers, taking him deep into a dark conspiracy of alien invasions, disgraced do-gooders, mystical visions, and yes, comic books.
