@Jello Biafra ”EVIL” season 3 ep 3, I think they’re ready to dead the Dad in this series. Notice how Kristen was writing the Ten Commandments of “The House” for her daughters and she tells them “don’t lie to mom”, “you must tell ____ to mom”- it’s never “your parents or mom&dad”

Context clues tell me that the useless bag of bones who appears every 6 months for 6 minutes and goes off rock climbing is about to die -

😭 :francis:

grandma’s and Leland’s devil worshipping cult is about to send him 6 ft underground indefinitely and send flesh eating boy from the prior episode to eat his remains to cover up any signs of murder. Rip him - he will not be missed. Most annoying pop up non-essential character ever.
They really do need to get him out of the picture lol. The litany of ways they write him out of every season is getting ridiculous at this point. And I don’t even mean they’re not believable. Credit to the writers for finding real world issues that make complete sense. But it’s a running joke for me

The Black Phone was really good. All rising tension with some nice emotional connections drawn to get you invested. It had a couple of clever jump scares where it wasn't too much and the theater got some release from it.

The only thing that never quite landed for me was one side character that felt too hammy for the rest of the film and stuck around well past serving his purpose to the plot.
fukked with it too. Very tense flick.

So I never saw the sequel to the House on Haunted Hill (the 2000's version). But it turned up on HBO Max, so I gave it a try...and now I kinda get why I never heard about it. It's one of those plots that barely makes sense and just serves to bring a bunch of people into a location for death scenes. The ghosts' powers don't make a lot of sense and they seemingly come and go as they please. The main doctor from the first one is the only real thru-line to the first movie which I actually really like (though it's pure early 00's horror).

But man...the House on Haunted Hill probably coulda been something they built on if they wanted to build lore instead of just cash in a quick money grab sequel. Missed opportunity.

@Jello Biafra and @NobodyReally help me out lol. I know I been gone for a min but when did this entire sub forum turn into all comic book flicks all the time? Damn
I just got back from a hiatus myself and am still getting used to this redesign, but TFR has been trending in that direction for a while now. Most of those threads are started by the same people and I want to say the pandemic kicked things into full throttle on that end.

It’s funny - I see complaints all across the board about superhero movie fatigue, and yet the number of threads posted in the sub-forum don’t seem to reflect that, lol. It was bad before but not this bad considering Disney+ wasn’t a thing and we didn’t have multiple shows focusing on comic book heroes.

My issue with Return to House on Haunted Hill was that it stripped away the charm that made the original remake pretty fun to watch and instead turned the film into straight up torture porn. I didn’t really give a damn about any of their characters unlike the first film. First film showed that I could have fun with its characters and still be downright terrified in certain scenes.

Didn’t help that they didn’t have a charismatic Geoffrey Rush guiding them along this go-round either. That sequel needed life breathed into it badly.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. The original's characters were interesting and their connections added some fun to plot. Throw in the haunted asylum but with updated tech as setting and it was a cool movie.

This sequel is all very cardboard. It feels like they took a haunted house script they already had and just reskinned it to be a sequel to try and get some extra eyes. That really sucks because the blueprint above coulda been something to run with (hell, 13 ghosts has a similar setting and that's a favorite throwback of mine too).

House on Haunted Hill 2 was terrible. Didn't even have a "so bad its good" quality to it to make watching it worthwhile.

They had Jeffrey Combs in the movie and wasted his talents though which is a cinematic sin.
