Maybe statistically as it pertains to liberal arts education... but i cant really make a blanket statement like that... look at all the black students that are enrolled in For-Profit institutions of higher learning..hell University of Phoenix graduates more black students than any college in the country.. by the way this reminds me of that WEB dubois vs Booker T debate we had on here a couple of months ago
:snoop:

breh, what on earth does university of phoenix have to do with UCLA????? those are 2 completely different worlds

black students are not competitive in academics, across the board, that statement is backed by every study ever done

sorry but the fact that you would compare university of phoenix to UCLA shows a profound ignorance, this ignorance is widespread IMO and it has to be fixed for black students to perform better

It will happen if there is a coordinated effort in the black community, that is why I say the onus is on black people, the admission process itself is straightforward and there is no evidence of any racism in the admission process

Do you consider white legacy at these schools racism? I went the University of Texas and many whites were legacy and did not have good scores compared to me and their Asian counterparts. Many of these same white kids went to expensive private schools where they did not do class rankings, this made it easier for them to circumvent the top 10% rule implemented after AA ended. You see they may take away race from the admissions process but legacy will always give white students that can't compete the upper hand. They are not going to create these rules without having a loophole for themselves. No different than a black student athlete given the upper hand when their admissions application is being looked at.

Legacy admissions are banned in the UC system and the main beneficiaries of the current system are asians, white people are actually declining rapidly under the current system

And to clarify, I'm just saying the admission system isn't racist, UCLA itself is racist as fuk, I'm not disputing that part of the video, a black student is not welcomed with open arms at UCLA, and it's not just whites, it's racism from Asians which are about half the population last time I checked

But black students are not competitive, that is the bottom line, I think it's a mistake to put the onus on an admissions office to fix that

I didn't fail to comprehend, you did

uop has very low academic standards, if you have a pulse they will accept you, UCLA is at the other end of the spectrum, it's very selective, it's two very different worlds

So the number of black graduates at U of P doesn't prove anything becuase it's not a competitive school

Im not disputing that.. My contention is with your belief that

black students are not competitive in academic

Which is why I said

Maybe statistically as it pertains to liberal arts education...

It just seems to me like your trying to make some kind of case that black students automatically cannot compete with other race academically

im not sure what the word automatically means, what i am saying is that across the board black students are not competitive, its not my belief, its what the statistics say

im making the case that black students are behind and that black people need to fix it, the burden is on black people, not the admissions office

well UCLA campus is very racist, im not denying that, but as far as the admission process, it isnt racist

the grades of people that are let in is not a secret, and there is no evidence that black students are being discriminated in the admission process, if there was UCLA would have been sued with a quickness

but this is why im glad they got rid of affirmative action because it forces us to deal with the real issue which is that black students have bad grades and bad test scores and they arent competitive

So the campus is racist but a still subjective admission process (despite how much they want to claim otherwise) isn't? :comeon:

And we never benefited from AA. Why do you think the California colleges have more Asians than white people? :pachaha:

So we are simply gonna ignore all the black kids that do get accepted to ivy league and top state schools that decide (rather the choice is made for them) not to attend?

there is a such thing as--- barriers to social mobility.
all races of people have to deal with this. black kids have this plus a few other things - especially if they grow up in the hood.

Most high-achieving students—defined as those with SAT or ACT scores in the top 10 percent—come from high-income families. Thirty-four percent are from the top quartile, and 27 percent are in the next quartile. Just 17 percent of high-achieving students are from families estimated to be in the bottom quartile of the income distribution. But while low-income students are underrepresented among high achievers, 17 percent is still a lot of people—something like 25,000 to 35,000 per year. Of those, about 70 percent are white, 15 percent Asian, and 15 percent black or Hispanic.

so anyway, I was using 1300+ as a measure. So my shyt was around 1580, or 1570. That's over 13, I believe that all things being equal that 15% would got closer to 30%. I had a 4.0 with all AP classes... and wasn't the only 1, there were 12 black kids who did better and hardly any black kids at the school .

High-income, high-achieving students generally do what you’d expect. Most of their applications are to schools where the median admissions test score is similar to what they got. But they apply to some reach schools. For Poor Kids- Fully 53 percent of them apply to zero schools whose median SAT or ACT scores are similar to their own. Many of these smart, poor kids apply only to a single unselective school. Only a very small percentage of these kids—8 percent of them, —act the same as high-achievement kids from prosperous families by applying to selective schools, including some reaches and safeties.

I can relate to this shyt.. I only applied to TCU and Texas U of Michigan because of scholarship and was asked to apply... if it wasn't for that I was like fukk all that BS. If your a smart student - You aren't fukking oblivious. You know people have 'code language.' You know people will say things like The school may be historically racist and has hardly any black students.... but the 'admissions' aren't racist. fukk that I went to MSU, cuz even at 17 I knew to go with the one that AT least had a larger black hispanic and asian population.

FOH - when they look at the whole person , they look for a fit... and culturally, extracurricular, summer programs, and economically - some groups of people just aren't a fit. IT is to the interest of the admission reps to find people that will be successful (in their minds) and that success isn't Only determined on act sat and gpa - so they are allowed to use certain bias that amounts to Class bias - that disproportionally will affect minorities. Period.

the uc admission system is probably the most scrutinized admission system in the country, and its much less subjective then a private school, if there was evidence of racism it would have been exposed and they would have been sued a long time ago

it would be easy as fuk to show racism in the process, all you would have to do is show that a high performing black student was denied or that a low performing white student was admitted, there isnt any evidence of either of those things happening, in fact the only thing happening is that asians are being admitted in droves and in fact technically speaking if you count asians ucla is probably one of the most diverse campuses in the country and whites are a minority on campus

the low number of black students is because black students dont perform and/or black students simply dont want to go there

No AA and white people are the minority at the campus? That's no coincidence.

this is just babbling

who is ignoring them? im just saying there are not enough of them, if you are a high performer black student you will be heavily recruited, simply because there are so few of them, there isnt any evidence that black students with high grades are being discriminated against

no shyt sherlock, and what are you gonna do about it, that is the issue

whats your point? you just showed that black students are not competitive

again, what is your point?

my point is that black parents and the black community needs to do a better a job of preparing black students

I can relate to this shyt.. I only applied to TCU and Texas U of Michigan because of scholarship and was asked to apply... if it wasn't for that I was like fukk all that BS. sure there is class bias, but like race, that shouldnt be addressed at the admissions office, it should be addressed where it actually happens, at the elementary and high school level

please. You are basically retarded on the process. Non university faculty are the first readers of the apps. Its random people who go through 'training' then app reader sups, then admissions people... From point 1 to point 3.... ALL process are purposefully Subjective NOT Objective. You're so much so on a pursue to diss black youth that you want to believe in the fantasy land that California's colleges aren't as racist as the state that runs them or the nation they are in.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/04/e...-california-berkeley.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

In norming sessions, I remember how lead readers would raise a candidate’s ranking because he or she “helped build the class.” I never quite grasped how to build a class of freshmen from California — the priority, it was explained in the first day’s pep talk — while seeming to prize the high-paying out-of-state students who are so attractive during times of a growing budget gap. (A special team handled international applications.)

In one norming session, puzzled readers questioned why a student who resembled a throng of applicants and had only a 3.5 G.P.A. should rank so highly. Could it be because he was a nonresident and had wealthy parents? (He had taken one of the expensive volunteer trips to Africa that we were told should not impress us.)

Income, an optional item on the application, would appear on the very first screen we saw, along with applicant name, address and family information. We also saw the high school’s state performance ranking. All this can be revealing.
After the next training session, when I asked about an Asian student who I thought was a 2 but had only received a 3, the officer noted: “Oh, you’ll get a lot of them.” She said the same when I asked why a low-income student with top grades and scores, and who had served in the Israeli army, was a 3.

Which them? I had wondered. Did she mean I’d see a lot of 4.0 G.P.A.’s, or a lot of applicants whose bigger picture would fail to advance them, or a lot of Jewish and Asian applicants (Berkeley is 43 percent Asian, 11 percent Latino and 3 percent black)?

The idea behind multiple readers is to prevent any single reader from making an outlier decision. And some of the rankings I gave actual applicants were overturned up the reading hierarchy. I received an e-mail from the assistant director suggesting I was not with the program: “You’ve got 15 outlier, which is quite a lot. Mainly you gave 4’s and the final scores were 2’s and 2.5’s.” As I continued reading, I should keep an eye on the “percentile report on the e-viewer” and adjust my rankings accordingly.
Officially, like all readers, I was to exclude minority background from my consideration. I was simply to notice whether the student came from a non-English-speaking household. I was not told what to do with this information — except that it may be a stressor if the personal statement revealed the student was having trouble adjusting to coursework in English. In such a case, I could refer the applicant for a special read.
:rudy:

This process has increased asian admission.. especially asian immigrant admission. Think about it like this..... .These are people, not computers. White people at that. I'm a black man... if 5 people apply for a job, I'm going with the black girl, if shes qualified. Period. Nobody could sue because shyt like that is hard to prove.... Quit being naive, things work like that at all levels and with the State of California having this fake ass "holistic" approach.... they can discriminate even more.... I could put caucasion female and some of the things on the app would still give me away at a top university.
