So we are simply gonna ignore all the black kids that do get accepted to ivy league and top state schools that decide (rather the choice is made for them) not to attend?
there is a such thing as--- barriers to social mobility. all races of people have to deal with this. black kids have this plus a few other things - especially if they grow up in the hood.
Most high-achieving students—defined as those with SAT or ACT scores in the top 10 percent—come from high-income families. Thirty-four percent are from the top quartile, and 27 percent are in the next quartile. Just 17 percent of high-achieving students are from families estimated to be in the bottom quartile of the income distribution. But while low-income students are underrepresented among high achievers, 17 percent is still a lot of people—something like 25,000 to 35,000 per year. Of those, about 70 percent are white, 15 percent Asian, and 15 percent black or Hispanic.
so anyway, I was using 1300+ as a measure. So my shyt was around 1580, or 1570. That's over 13, I believe that all things being equal that 15% would got closer to 30%. I had a 4.0 with all AP classes... and wasn't the only 1, there were 12 black kids who did better and hardly any black kids at the school .
High-income, high-achieving students generally do what you’d expect. Most of their applications are to schools where the median admissions test score is similar to what they got. But they apply to some reach schools. For Poor Kids- Fully 53 percent of them apply to zero schools whose median SAT or ACT scores are similar to their own. Many of these smart, poor kids apply only to a single unselective school. Only a very small percentage of these kids—8 percent of them, —act the same as high-achievement kids from prosperous families by applying to selective schools, including some reaches and safeties.
I can relate to this shyt.. I only applied to TCU and Texas U of Michigan because of scholarship and was asked to apply... if it wasn't for that I was like fukk all that BS. If your a smart student - You aren't fukking oblivious. You know people have 'code language.' You know people will say things like The school may be historically racist and has hardly any black students.... but the 'admissions' aren't racist. fukk that I went to MSU, cuz even at 17 I knew to go with the one that AT least had a larger black hispanic and asian population.
FOH - when they look at the whole person , they look for a fit... and culturally, extracurricular, summer programs, and economically - some groups of people just aren't a fit. IT is to the interest of the admission reps to find people that will be successful (in their minds) and that success isn't Only determined on act sat and gpa - so they are allowed to use certain bias that amounts to Class bias - that disproportionally will affect minorities. Period.
