im not sure what the exact number is, i think that number 48 is the ones who decided to enroll, but the number who got accepted is probably about 100, but yeah, my guess is that in a given year in california there are only a couple of 100 black males (if you add those that didnt bother applying) that have good enough grades to go to UCLA

and yeah that is as horrific as it sounds

i think the onus is on black people, the admission office should continue a straightforward admission process

But studies have shown straight test scores or gpa's doesnt really determine the success of a student...and I seriously doubt that only 48 black male freshmen in the state of california are worthy of admission to UCLA

studies have shown no such thing, in fact studies have shown that minority students that are admitted through affirmative action have a higher dropout rate

i already broke down the numbers, 48 is the number that actually enrolled, my guess is that the number (of black male students with good enough scores) is about 200 in the state of california in any given year

“It’s a far greater disparity than anything we’d talk about with race,” says Richard Sander, a professor at the UCLA School of Law who studies racial and economic disparities in higher education. “The pervasive problem in admissions offices is class-ism, not racism — they’re biased against low-income students.”

Apparently problems that affect the poor don't disproportionately affect the blacks more often,,,, OK sure.

NTM on the UCLA application you have to fill out demographics. Shhhhit I discriminate against cac all the time, if the LinkedIn looks like a racist CAC then I don't fukk w them. You mean to tell me that admissions boards hold no racial bias and Only Classicism bias??????

People want to make case for all these other factors and ignore the race issue. Havard and Yale accept 60% from the top 10% social-economic students. If 98% of those are white then 98% get those connections and get that prestige.... same thing with these well known liberal universities.
Look at the University of Alabama........... THE ONLY difference between them and UCLA is that Alabama hates nigggas and doesn't front about it ----- MEANWhile UCLA joins colleges in the Northeast and midwest that have to pretend to not look at race because they are filled with the WHITE Liberals that Malcolm X pre-warned us about.

Those types of CAC are worse than the U of Alabama type of CAC that simply str8 up tell you "No you're black you can't get into the University icebreaker pool party"

I got into a couple good schools.... and I'm not fooled.. I have a cac sounding name n transcripts and high school and type of high school scream CAC.
It's just like I used to show up to interviews n the person would see me like,,, "oh"

well UCLA campus is very racist, im not denying that, but as far as the admission process, it isnt racist

the grades of people that are let in is not a secret, and there is no evidence that black students are being discriminated in the admission process, if there was UCLA would have been sued with a quickness

but this is why im glad they got rid of affirmative action because it forces us to deal with the real issue which is that black students have bad grades and bad test scores and they arent competitive

So basically only 9 or 10 black students in each state get good test scores???

lol, that's not true. AT ALL

The state’s voters banned the consideration of race in public college admissions in 1996 and since then, black and Hispanic enrollment and graduation rates have increased dramatically, even though enrollment of those minorities at the most selective schools fell as much as 50%

All things being considered black students can compete. "outreach programs where they could meet university officials in person had “dramatically lower” chances of being admitted compared with those who didn’t, while black students who attended those programs had a higher chance."

Without meeting students, of course a higher % of blacks and hispanics will get fukked over---- admissions officials say its "unconscious" due to class - but it simply falls in line with the plan for the nation. The types of summer programs and programs that all white high schools sprinkled with asians have are > programs in urban districts - and admissions are as much about how interesting you seem as it is about GPA. That's why black students do better when they get to present themselves along with their application - because the playing field is evened at that point espeically if the black student can get a scholarhip..

Really we aren't discussing asians whites and blacks with low test scores. We are talking about those that have high test scores. Our admissions have went up since AA was banned. I don't think it's right that a black kid will have 10x harder battle to make it into a top school than a cac or asain..... from birth to high school, but if you look at all the major city's in the US, urban early childhood education is a top priority right now.

but really i know what i'm talking about..... I turned down, University of Texas, Texas Christian, Michigan U, and Texas AM... went to msu because they r the only ones that offered me a academic scholarship.... they had programs that assisted minorities more. You can't live in American with socioeconomic issues that aren't addressed then point the finger at the black student. nikka i had a 4. all honors classes w a sat>1300... so there are thousands of black students > me that will never graduate.... I'm just saying, it's not just that there aren't smart black kids out there.

i went to a UC, ive studied the issue and im fully aware of how the system works and there isnt any racism in the admissions process, you are not even allowed to state your race in the actual application (you do state your race in a separate part but its for federal purposes not for admission purposes)

of course minority admission went down when at the higher campuses when AA got eliminated because AA gave a boost to minority students, that doesnt prove that the admission system is racist, that proves that minorities get bad grades and bad scores compared to other groups

relatively speaking black students are not competitive, thats just a fact, im not necessarily pointing to the black student, although at the end of the day every student is responsible for him or herself, im pointing my finger to the black community and to black culture

and breh, your 1300 is nothing, you would have a problem getting into UCLA, and this is what i mean, i dont think black people and black families realize the level of the competition, AA has hidden how far behind black students are

first off.... because admission increased at most campuses and only decrease at the most expensive schools - it show that AA DID not really give a boost on any big scale.

You're actually one of those people that think that AA is what black kids needed. AA only made up for some of the other factors that made the system unfair... and mainly helped white women n others.

and i would never wanna go to a cali school, but I know someone that didn't even have a 4.0 that got into UCLA. I know thats rare, but they look at the full student, extracurricular, college level course work, and other random shyt. so anything above a 1300 u can make it in. plus my math would be above their average - but anyway the Actual point is........... There are plenty of smarter black HS students that will attend lower level universities for other reasons. My lil cuz is a published author and was accepted to Columbia and she wasn't even gonna go... You need all sorts of backing to attend good schools that some people just don't have.

You can't live in American with socioeconomic issues that aren't addressed then point the finger at the black student

i dont think you know what you are talking about, first of all i graduated from a UC campus, so i dont understand why you are trying to explain things to me about a system ive already been through

the way it works is that if you dont get into a campus you want you get into another campus, UCLA and UC berkely are the most competitive, so if you dont get into one of those, you go to another campus and the increase in other campuses does show that minorities were getting a boost for ucla and Berkeley before

im not for AA, im against AA, that is why i support the current admissions system

the reality is that there is no evidence that there is any racism in the admission process at UCLA, and UCLA is a public school so you dont need anything special to go there

the admission process is straightforward and color blind and it should stay that way IMO

and again im not pointing at the black student necessarily, im pointing to black people and black culture, unless we change the culture to be more academically oriented black students will remain uncompetitive

well now that you've stated that black kids should get better grades, I'm sure it will happen.

It will happen if there is a coordinated effort in the black community, that is why I say the onus is on black people, the admission process itself is straightforward and there is no evidence of any racism in the admission process
