Not surprising really. Nigeria exported a lot of slaves. The Yorubas especially, particularly in the West Indies and Brazil. A lot of that voodoo and juju originates from Yoruba practices. That NOLA/Haitain voodoo is a fusion of Yoruba and Igbo ancient practices. Same thing with Brazilian Candomble.

My dad took a DNA test and he didn't have any West African in him! My dad was always a funny looking light bright (he light but not yellow. Got like a white ppl skin tone. Look kinda Cuban/Arab). The test said virtually all his blackness came from Sudan. But we just humble Mississippi folks. Could this really be true or didn't they fukk up his results?

Sudan?

I feel like the topic of descent for diasporic populations is too speculative.

Going forward, I'd be much more interested in literature about how the interaction between diasporic populations (AAs, Islanders, Africans) is changing the gene pool. I've come across some people with some pretty interesting blends that wouldn't have existed prior to the modern era.

Nothing
A few yrs a ago my mom and I were discussing the slave trade and she mentioned a man from igboland who was notorious for kidnapping people from other villages and selling them to the British back in the the day. She said he even kidnapped some people from our village. Keep in mind this story was passed down to my mother for generations so I do not know how accurate it is.

She claimed a curse was placed on him and his family and this is why other Igbos were forbidden from marrying from that village. When my mom returns from Nigeria I am gonna have to ask her about the name of the man and the village he was from.
