You keep trying to tie to the larger tribes because they're popular but chances are you come from much smaller tribes that were captured by the super powers of the area.

Nigerians represent:blessed:

On the other hand that of course means we sold those poor b*stards, and would in turn reap our rewards by becoming a British colony hundreds of years later due in no small part to the wealth they gained from said trade.

I always wonder if this has something to do with the AA vs Nigerian "beefs" people play up.

Fairly sure Af-Ams have more Senegambia/Angolan heritage than Yoruba or Igbo heritage. Though the Igbo did form the plurality (if not the majority) of enslaved Africans sent to Virginia/Maryland.

Yeah, it's really dependent on the state and time period. But at this point I think most New Afrikans have ancestry from all of those African nations. We're truly a pan-African people.

Took my first Yoruba language class yesterday and loved it.

It's a beautiful language and after learning that I descend from the Yoruba ethnic group through DNA testing, I honestly want to learn all I can about the heritage, language and culture because American society refuses to acknowledge it. This is a great thread to connect the diaspora.
