Epic fukking movie. Definitely doesn't get the recognition it deserves...it feels like people forgot about it for some reason

I think that's because of the year it came out in. 97 is an OK year for movies, not great and of course the highest grossing movie of all time got released and won major awards so it's a couple factors into that

my honorable mention got me looking at my bottom 5 like :patrice:

it's so difficult i wanted to add a "just missed the cut category" with 3 picks that didnt make top 10 or HM :dead:

but that takes some of the fun out of it :birdman:

My question is why anyone alive in 2014 would even give a shyt about the Academy Awards. It's not just this whole X Vs. Y argument the guy talks about, it's about the Academy itself basically being a self-congratulatory Hollywood back-patting club favoring conservatism over innovation and pretending world cinema is a side act to their industry.

fukk award shows and fukk the people that give power to them by acknowledging their existence.

you might watch it though, right?

it's not about the awards, fukk the awards. it's not about having one group of people telling us all what the best movies and performances were, it's about celebrating the love of film. all these award shows... whether it's the oscars, the golden globes, the mtv movie awards... it's just about celebrating the year in film.

the academy is no worse or better than any other committee of opinions, only thing is they are daunted with the task of not only having to cater to the most broadest demographic possible, but also maintaining the prestige and nobility of the event. so i imagine they don't pick the best movie but rather they arrive at best movie.

sidenote: do you guys really not understand why movies like titanic and forrest gump would win over movies like la confidential and pulp fiction?
