Good read but goddamn Crash was such a terrible movie it really hurt my appreciation for the Academy Awards...
As for @TheGodling I agree with you, but I acknowledge the awards because I just enjoy celebrating film in any way...I only watch them because I'm just a lover of film. i don't take their picks as accurate (Crash again, lol) but I enjoy the event because I love the craft of filmmaking
i like rooting for whatever movie/performance I'm stanning most that year.Bah! We live in the age of the internet, where one can bask online in his loves and passions twenty-four-seven if one would desire so. In such a time, the usefulness of a broken system like awards shows is non-existent, as we can freely debate at any given time the greatest (and worst) our beloved art has to offer.
Award shows.... nothing but another overblown marketing scheme for Hollywood movies through celebrations paid for and bought by that same Hollywood. The only magic they have is what they leech of romanticizing film geeks.

it's like the superbowl for film geeks
plus i always have a bet with my sister.. we submit our picks on the oscar website before it starts.. either monetary or sometimes as simple as loser has to buy the other a blu-ray.
