I normally oppose cosmic justice, but I support this. I'm just not sure, what it would accomplish...

Won’t reparations divide us? Not any more than we are already divided. The wealth gap merely puts a number on something we feel but cannot say—that American prosperity was ill-gotten and selective in its distribution. What is needed is an airing of family secrets, a settling with old ghosts. What is needed is a healing of the American psyche and the banishment of white guilt.

What I’m talking about is more than recompense for past injustices—more than a handout, a payoff, hush money, or a reluctant bribe. What I’m talking about is a national reckoning that would lead to spiritual renewal. Reparations would mean the end of scarfing hot dogs on the Fourth of July while denying the facts of our heritage. Reparations would mean the end of yelling “patriotism” while waving a Confederate flag. Reparations would mean a revolution of the American consciousness, a reconciling of our self-image as the great democratizer with the facts of our history.

That's no reason to hate Israel. If anything, that's an example of the type of compensation African-Americans should have been given. It's like when people hate on unionized workers because they don't have the same benefits. Advocate for similar benefits instead of hating on those who have them.

My hatred stems from seeing a similar persecuted people receiving reparations for actions against them, yet we are mocked when we ask for compensation and are told to get over it. It's like when people hate the system when they don't receive the same benefits as unionized workers.

benefiting from the white power structure is one thing, owing anyone reparations directly is another. and even if you want to make the argument that the federal government owes reparations, which can very well be made, i wont be convinced that I personally owe anyone shyt

and for the record theres a long list of things that the government spends my tax money on, that i would vote to send toward reparations before the shyt theyre spending it on. because like i said, it is due, in some way

Finally got around to reading this in its entirety, great great article. Really shows how foul the govt treats black people even after they 'freed' us and gave us equal rights...

Something should be dine but like the article says, doing anything means admitting wrongs have occurred and i dont believe those in power will admit to giving whites an unfair advantage

No offense but the guy is being really slick with it. C'mon now "I'm half trini, do I get half the cash?" Lol, that is so besides the point.

Black people in this country went through wayyyyy too much bullshyt for them not get reparations. The Japanese Americans got reparations for being in internment camps, righfully so. But black people, who have been here longer than other non-whites besides the natives, and dealt with horrible treatment for centuries, must get over it? Must turn the page? LOL.

And now I'm seeing more and more black Americans saying "yea we should move on, blah blah." fukk that. shyt like this is why race relations may never change in this country. How are you gonna ask the party that was wronged to just forget everything that happened? Then you continue to wrong them through covert yet just as devious tactics as before? AND you won't apologize for what you've done to them?

I mean, my parents are African and came to this country in the early 80s, I won't benefit from reparations should it come through. But damn, it's only the right thing to do.
